We are looking to relocate to the Jackson area in the next couple of months. We both currently have about a 20-25 minute commute each way to our jobs. It looks like, based on website data, if we were to live in Brandon/Flowood area, the commute to work in Richland is likely around 20-30 minutes. Is that overly optimistic, or is that about right?? No idea how congested traffic gets there as we've never so much as visited the area before.

Thanks in advance for any insite folks.

Brandon to Richland is only about 10 minutes plus a few minutes to get on the interstate. A lot of people refer to the Flowood/Reservoir area as Brandon also (intersection of Hwy 471 and Hwy 25 roughly) because the parts that are not incorporated have a Brandon postal code. That would add another 10 to 15 minutes coming down Hwy 471 to get to the interstate.

Thank you. That means I was guessing about right for commute times. I just wasn't sure how bad traffic got around there. For me currently, getting stuck behind a farmer driving his tractor down a two-lane road is considered a traffic jam! LOL

Depending on the time (peak rush hours being the worst), Lakeland Drive and Hwy 49 can be congested. Get to work by 0700 and you will be fine, but if you have to run carpool for kids, you will be struck in traffic. There are back roads, but everyone else knows them too.

Depending on where you live (the area you reference is spread out), you could be a little overly optimistic.
