What's sad to me about Brandon's amphitheater's 2018 lineup is that it was probably the densest it will ever be since it was the opening year. But they're all three pathetic really...

But to compare the Ravinia Festival to the Brandon amphitheater? Come on.

It's been going on since 1904 and has about 600K people that visit it annually (quick Google search). Oh by the way it's near/in Chicago which consists of about 2.7 million people compared to the Jackson metro area's population of 540K... Not to mention the amount of tourists that visit Chicago because it's a populated city with like.... actual things to do. We don't have tourists in Jackson. We just have people that ended up here by mistake.
The Chicago Metro is actually close to 10M.

They have plenty of audience to draw from, but they have a much shorter season. They certainly make good use of the time they have though. Also, many acts will go to large cities that would never think of going to small ones.

I looked at the 2019 lineup for Oak Mountain (outside of B'ham), only three events are listed. Maybe it's the norm to only have one or two events per month? Who knows, obviously not me.

Good news though, Skynyrd will be here September! I'm sure Gloria is rolling her eyes reading this, but I'm going!

Yeah, I'm not sure how well Oak Mountain is utilized. From googling, it looks like the have other things there too, like an amusement park with rides, some sort of zoo. But I have no idea of how well the amphitheater is utilized. I'll have to check on Nashville too.

I was just tryting to determine if it's wise for the city of Huntsville to spend an estimated $45M on a a fancy amphitheater. I'd go, and lots of other will too, but will it be utilized much of the time? That's the only way it can make money. Supposedly there are over 1.2M people in a 50 mile radius, so there should be plenty to support it, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I figured the Brandon Amphitheater would be better utilized, but at least the acts they have seem to be pretty good.

I might go see Skynard too if it was close enough. Gloria probably would too but might not admit it.

Like I said there's going to be a season but with Birmingham being a larger city, it might have an easier time getting more bigger name acts to play there.

I assume you're referring to my heartfelt and completely specious remembrances, from the time when the world lost Lynrd Skynrd: http://www.city-data.com/forum/41813129-post7.html

Oh, but I WOULD admit it, as my memoirs from that apocryphally seminal chapter in my early life will attest.

Under the right conditions, I'd admit to just about anything.

Hahahaha the information you sometimes post never ceases to amaze me. I used to live by the Oak Mountain amphitheatre. This 'park' you speak of is the fair that comes once per year, lol. Zoo? What the heck are you talking about??

No clue. Seems like most municipalities make pretty stupid decisions pretty consistently around here. Not surprised.

I was more excited for the mountain biking trails that they claimed were coming along with the amphitheater. Guess that idea fell through. A place for Mississippians to exercise/explore nature? Why would anyone want that?

I assume that they would have done studies of venues like the BankPlus Amphitheater at Snowden Grove Park (too long of a name) in Southaven before moving ahead with the project. Granted, being that this amphitheater is located in Southaven, a Memphis suburb, it has a larger metro area to draw from. I would expect that most people that go to shows at the BankPlus Amphitheater are probably from Mississippi rather than from Memphis.

Maybe, just MAYBE, they are still working on them? I drive by there weekly and there is a lot of construction still on-going. But hey, run everything down, that's what we Mississippians do.

City of Brandon is not one of the dumb municipalities, by the way. Far from it.
