Does anyone know of any Dominican Hair Salons/Stylists in the Jackson, MS area? I am actually located about 30 miles south of Jackson so I can go anywhere from Brookhaven and up. Thanks in advance.

Tell you the truth, Mississippi on a whole don't have many latinos, so you obvious won't find any Dominican hair salons. If you want Dominican hair salon, you will have to move to New York City or New Jersey. If you don't believe me, you can check the stats on Jackson, MS and Mississippi and you will see that Mississippi's latino population is only 1-2% of Jackson and Mississippi overrall.

What's a Dominican hair salon? A salon operated by Dominican nationals or a salon with special services ala the Dominican Republic??

Default Dominican Salon

A Dominican salon is one that is usually run by nationals from the Dominican Republic, or they could just use techniques that are popular in the DR. They're really good for women of all ethnicities who have really curly, kinky, or otherwise difficult-to-manage hair textures. The Dominican salons have mastered this because most Dominicans are a mix of so many cultures that their hair is somewhere in between typical African, European, & native textures.

The Dominicans can take a 'fro & have it smooooooth as silk, baby!

OK well on that nbote I'd like to find a good mexican barber. Something about the male-centricity of that culture and the machismo conveyed through good grooming makes a trip to a mexican barber an unforgettable experience. Every sunday I'd spend an hour at the barber and leave looking (and feeling) like Sgt Rock! It's one of the things I miss most about LA.

I doubt you'll find any in Jackson. You may find some black hairstylists that may be able to do the Dominican Blow Out thing, but I don't know if you'll have any luck with that either. You'd have better luck in Louisiana as there are shops scattered around here, but I don't know where they are. On that note, I don't think you'd drive 150 miles for a blow out and some lemisol.

There's Dominican nuns in Jackson, the state capital. They run St. Dominic's Hospital.

God bless.
