Are you paying attention to all the tax dollars going to the Casinos around Mississippi? Of course it will work. Mississippi's not broke. some have already said the economy here is better than other states.

Maybe the economy should improve a little first before something like that gives it a go.

Remember The AMP in Oxford? They also served upgraded concessions and even beer, and would even bring it to you at your seat. They had small tables between each seat. They even had an outdoor theater if you would rather watch a movie outdoors.. It faltered with Malco as competition, and prices were competitive with Malco.
This is as good as this economy is gonna get. even when the economy was good Mississippi sat on her hands, money and opportunities. Just laxed in the sun as usual. such a lazy broad she is...

But seriously, There's a class of Jacksonians, like myself, that want to experience the finer things and a Cinema like this will definitely satisfy those tastes. Not to mention make up for all the years the city went without one....geesh....

Can you imagine taking your honey bunny to see District 9 at a Cinema like this while you eat a plate of deep freid shrimp or something with a cold bevy? I know you can

PF Chang's took forever to get here. bout time for WingStop to show up, Lenny's, etc... all these places are old in other states.

Jackson needs a swift kick in the ass, this is ridiculous.

It's embarrassing enough that there's not ONE cinema in the city limits of Jackson.

There's a big difference b/w a movie theater and a casino. The attraction of the casinos is that you have a chance to win money - both casinos and theaters provide a form of entertainment, but you can't make money when you go to the movies.

There was a pretty cool theatre in Wayne, MI when I was growing up that had a large glass windowed bar overlooking the drive-inn screens behind the front cineplex entry. It was a sprawling ranch of cinemas with a street level entrance into a 6 screen cineplex then, as you went up the stairs, opening onto this bar where you could enjoy all the stuff you enjoy at a bar while watching the film of your choice through the prodigious glass expanse. I believe ther were two or three drive-inns in back and each table had one of those jukebox type speaker stations.

Yeah I know it all sounds quaint now in this age of 10 channel sensurround and ginormous screens. And it did work for some decades, although that may also have been simply because it was essentially "free" - you could sit there anytime as long as you liked just so long as (one would suppose) you were willing to buy drinks. By the time one got to this part of the plex one had already bought tickets to A feature, this was more of a waiting place where one could enjoy a cocktail or two before entering the main theater.

Still, I don't get it. If you want "high end" cinema why not restore one of the grand old theatres? Nothing compares to walking into a palace with 70 foot ceilings, balconies, and chandeliers.

Tell that to the people of Brandon and Flowood. they just got new Tinseltown theaters and the people are flocking. I went to the one in Flowood and was immediately impressed.

So you mean Brandon and Flowood can see fit to have them but not Jackson?

Paramount Theater is on the table but that's as far as it's gonna go. the red tape and filibuster won't help the FSD no time soon.

I was simply stating that you can't assume people are willing to spend money at theaters just because people are willing to gamble their money at casinos. People will fly to other parts of the country to gamble at casinos - you can't say the same for movie theaters. That's really all I was getting at - and of course I think a theater could work in Jackson, otherwise I would not have posted that I think an Alamo Drafthouse would do well in Jackson.

I disagree. with no theaters in Jackson. families would packed into it every day and twice on the weekends. just like the Tinseltowns right up the street.

Biloxi used to have a theater some years back called the the Silver Screen and they served ice cold mug beer and appetizers. Me and a friend saw the Predator for the first time there. it was cool because the theater was right on the beach.

I definitely believe a theater in the city would work. I don't know about appetizers, etc. The problem is convincing a theater company to locate to the city when the city's metro doesn't support itself. When the entire metro area gets together and realize that they need and depend on one another, then things will get moving.

Just out of curiosity, how is the relationship between residents of New Orleans and those who reside in the suburbs? Is there tension there or is it more of a cooperative effort?
