I am in the Flowood area of Jackson on business and I am looking for a nice, average priced restaurant that has live music to go to tomorrow nite. Nothing too fancy. Any quick suggestions????? Found Hal and Mal's on line. Is this place worth trying out? Thanks in advance! (this is GoodLife's wife)

These music listings are found at the website of the Jackson Free Press. You can't go wrong with he Ole Tavern at George Street (aka "George Street") which is just like it sounds (tavern), Hal and Mals (New Orleans type food, eclectic atmosphere), or Fenians (Irish Pub). The Auditorium is new and is a in a former, converted school building in Fondren (upscale Southern food). Underground 119 is also new and has the feel of a downtown jazz place. You could go to Hal and Mal's for dinner and then walk across the parking lot to Martin's for music, which is a popular bar. These are all downtown or nearby. Pelican Bay is on the water at the Reservoir. It's very casual; a fun place if you're not in a hurry. It's not known for its service. Shuckers is an oyster bar nearby, close to the reservoir.
