I've seen this in quite a few threads, and I wanted to do it for this one. What are some things, i.e. brands, attractions, etc, that you would like to see in the Jackson metro area. You could also say something you would just like to see in Mississippi in general, but please tell us what city or region you would like to see it placed. I add mine after a few others start the discussion.

Some sort of "live-work" complex in Downtown.

More infrastructure improvements to the underserved neighborhoods.

More/better landscaping in the streets

Further revitalization of Farish Street. I was in Dallas a few weeks ago on business, and I was impressed by the Lower Greenville and Knox-Henderson areas. Put some restaurants and bars in the area.

A "Magnolia Mills" type of project. If you've ever been to say, Sawgrass Mills in Florida or Potomac Mills in Virginia, these are huge retail-entertainment projects. They usually have movie theaters, a "game place", sort of like GameWorks or Dave & Busters, where families often get together, plus lots of outlet type shopping. I know that with the economy, this is a bit of a stretch, but there isn't a "Mills" mall for miles around, so it could be an attraction. Either put it in North Jackson (Over by Lakeover/220) or tear down Metrocenter and put it there? Or have it built similar to the Louisiana Boardwalk in Shreveport, along the riverfront? I know that would require a LOT of reconfiguring and building of the levees. It may be a good idea for the Two Lakes Project, *shrugs*

Maybe remodel the Mississippi Farmers Market into a "River Market" type of project that Little Rock has, or relocate it to Downtown Jackson.

For my old stomping grounds of Hattiesburg, I'd definitely like to see more street-level activity over by USM, particularly on Hardy Street. Sort of how Guadalupe Avenue by University of Texas in Austin was back in the 1990's. And when can USM get a Parking Garage?!

I would like Jackson to become cosmopolitan and trendy like Glasgow. With lots more chic restaurants, al fresco dining etc.

-A Movie theater.
-Infill development vs New
-A Churrascaria.
-Shopping options (I see people want a Macy's, but Macy's is just a high price Dillard's with less quality. Some are downright akin to something you would find in present-day Metrocenter).
-Entertainment options.
-Regional Cohesiveness.

#1 - a prominent green space in Downtown that makes a big statement, possibly located between Pearl St & Pascagoula St, and Lamar St & Roach St. This would do several things, including increase property values around the area, increase public activity in Downtown [especially during off hours, lunch hours, and weekends], and provide a comfortable space substantial enough to host outdoor events and festivals such as Jubilee Jam and Jacktoberfest.

Jacksonian, now that Johnson is back in office, I hope he brings back his Festival Park idea. It was a park downtown with water features and an amphitheater. I think it's a great idea, and I hope he does all within his power to get it back on track.

There are plans to put a river walk in Downtown along with a lake*, marina, green space and amphitheater. I believe feasibility studies are being done now, or they actually may be trying to raise funding by now. It would be located on the west side of Downtown, starting near Griffith St and winding its way down to the lake which would be near South St. I like what I have heard so far, but I would like to see more details regarding this project before backing it 100%.

*Not related to the proposed Two Lakes plan regarding the Pearl River nor does this plan claim to provide any flood control, although the creek (Town Creek) that this river walk and lake are based on does drain into the Pearl River.

I would love to see more restaurants and a "true" nightlife in the city of jackson. I love a thriving city with a downtown offering shopping, dining, and entertainment. They should even try to get one or 2 casinos on the Rankin County/Jackson side of the Pearl River.
