Yeah...I live in Bartram Park and have to agree with you. This place is HORRIBLE!
I will be making my way to HKB, though. Thanks for the info!

There's one out on San Jose Blvd
I recently had dinner at Hong Kong Bistro on San Jose. Its ideal for those that want a more authentic style. I'm not as adventurous and had the Schezuan tofu dish which was good. I tried some other dishes from other friends which were also good. Its worth a try

Just wanted to tell everyone that Bamboo Creek is now open in Tinseltown. I had dinner at the Mellow Mushroom and noticed it was open now. They have a very nice interior, a lot of room. Nice bar with TV. Menu seems to be pretty big. They said they have dimsum every day at lunch. I'm gonna try it and let people know how it was. Maybe someone else can go first and let us know before I do.

Thanks for the update on Bamboo Creek, repped! Finally another dim sum place. Hope they're at least as good as Silver Star, if not, better, anything less is unacceptable.

Yeah!! I can't wait!
We should start a new thread on Bamboo Creek once everyone's been and see what everyone thinks.

FYI heard Silver Star started doing dim sum with carts now for their commonly ordered dishes. Fried stuffs they'll carry out on a tray for you to pick.

travelingfood - I see you are a hardcore fan of Silver Star.
It is a bit out of the way for me and I felt the menu was limited but maybe we'll give it another whirl in the future!
Since I'm new to FL and to the South in general, is it common to see non-Asian workers in a Chinese restaurant? Silver Star was a first for me.

I'm more like hardcore fan of dim sum, among other fine Asian foods. So I very welcome the addition of Bamboo Creek, it'll make Silver Star sweat a bit for competition.
Pretty common scene here, even at take-out places. For one thing customers can communicate better, the other, they probably don't have too much family member/friend to work for them on the cheap . And they can't hire only Asian..it'll be discriminatory.
On the contrary, much Asian working at PFChang??

not satisfied with bamboo creek!
should've known waiting for a server for 15 minutes was a bad sign! All the servers walked by us with no type of greeting or "someone will be right with you."...we eventually had to notify the hostess. Then over half the dimsum menu was sold out. After I was notified by the server that some of the stuff I chose was out, she brought me what she called an "updated" menu. So, after I chose a few more items, she told me that some of THOSE were out! WTF?! What kind of "updated" menu is that?? The server then told me I should come during lunch when they have "everything" pushed on the cart. Even after I told her it's not convenient to come for lunch because of work, she still insisted a few times later that I come in for lunch. That just showed me that she wasn't listening. Then when I asked her what one of the dishes was, she didn't know but asked a co-worker, who also didn't know but said he'd ask the kitchen. Well, no surprise, but he never came back. Then, when I asked our waitress again, she just said, "oh, did that other guy ever come back?" Of course, I said "no"...and what annoyed me was that she didn't offer to go find out herself and tell us. And just to go along with the theme, when I asked for chopsticks, of course they had to be out of them! As far as the dimsum we did get, it was average. Nothing special. Oh and upset about the discrimination that the table full of asians next to us with the asian server got fresh oranges after their meal when we didn't (I'm familiar that it's tradition for "real" chinese restaurants to serve oranges after meals). I know this establishment is fairly new since the 'grand opening' sign is still up, but here's a note: The first month of business is so important because all the customers are first-timers. It is so important to be organized (which clearly they weren't) and have impeccable service. Everything leaves a lasting impression on customers. Based on this one night, we most likely won't return. oh and lastly, 5 bucks for a corona is a bit overpriced!!

I would like to try bamboo Creek, the postings for the most part rave about the dimsum...Questions to those who've been there:
1. Are their dimsum choices fairly extensive? I like the exotic stuff, like tendon, jellyfish, chicken feet; how good were the char-siu pao (steamed pork buns) and the steamed dumplings (siu-mai)?
2. What else do they have on the menu besides dimsum?
Thanks guys!
