Surely there is a park around there within walking/biking distance? When I grew up, we all played in the parks or at a friend's house who had at least an acre (I was fortunate in the latter).

Consult a lawyer regarding damage to your property and consult with a law enforcement officer regarding his verbal threat. Self defense should be something to invest your time and efforts but learn the law. The person sounds like he has a mental disorder or is antisocial - with a low self esteem if he feels he needs to be condescending and elitist.
