I was just reading about the rennovations going on at the Alexander Brest Planetarium, which will be renamed The Bryan Gooding Planetarium in the Alexander Brest Science Theatre once completed. However, according to Wikipedia the original planetarium was "built in 1988."

Now, I swear the place existed well before that! I have memories of going to "Cosmic Concerts" when I was in high school, and I graduated in 1981! Back then the MOSH was known as the "Jacksonville Children's Museum."

Now, am I just losing my mind or what? I was going to put this in the 'Gone But Not Forgotten Thread' (yeah, the one I started! ); but since the MOSH still exists as does the Alexander Brest Planetarium, I thought I'd be best to start a new thread...

Cheers! M2

You're right Max ... I was going there long before '81 (check my name) ... Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" was the main attraction at the Cosmic Concerts I went to ...

p.s. I love the "Gone But Not Forgotten" thread, it's what introduced me to C-D

Yeah, I recall going when I was old enough to drive (which would have been around '79) and the 1988 date seemed way off to me! I recall Boston and Van Halen being blasted during the Cosmic Concerts, which was a great experience considering the sound system they had installed. There is a planetarium here in San Antonio, but I've not been yet and don't know if they have these kind of shows...

Oh, and I stole the GBNF concept from the SA forum. Since I grew up in Jax, I figured it would be more applicable...

Cheers! M2

Sorry I don't know anything about the history...that was before I was born.

Chances are they do. And if they don't, they'll probably be quite receptive to the idea if you suggest/request it.
