chiming in here.

We've been in Jax one year tomorrow. I have found SO many sweet and friendly people here. I have two boys, one is 14 and one is 7. So that gives us the ability to meet new people through their schools, sports activities etc. I cannot tell you how many nice and I truly mean NICE people there are down here.

I was always used to going into a store, shopping, feeling like I was being rushed to pay and then leave. Here I get employees in stores offering to talk more, help out more and smiling at you more. It was a bit overwhelming at first as I was used to just zipping through, keeping your head down and getting out.

There is just a different sense of community where I live and that is why we bought where we did. I hope some of you who are having bad experiences give it a chance because this Northern girl has recently added y'all to her vocabulary without even knowing and I can honestly say I "feel" happier as well.

we really love it down here.

Actually for your info since you are interested, my family and I will be moving to a nice quite town where people are actually friendly, and use manners, and wave to strangers, and strike up conversations with people. I have not cited any examples because I wouldn’t know where to begin since it is almost a daily occurrence that I run into rude people. I am not an angry person; I am actually a relaxed laid back chill kind of person. I just get frustrated and angry with stupid people. Everything is not sunshine and roses all the time, and I was trying to give my 2cents to the person that started this thread. I have worked in the law enforcement for years, and have worked with children that have been abused, so I guess I see what most people put their rose colored glasses on not to see. My children are very happy and very involved with school and their sports teams; actually they tell me all the time how happy they are because they are so loved and blessed with a wonderful family. When I told them we were moving my daughter said I will miss ummm my grandma and that is about it. They are happy but that doesn’t mean that they want to stay here.

I notice a lot of people down here confuse "friendliness" with things like saying "hello" or "excuse me" in the grocery store, talking small talk about the weather, etc. Thats certainly part of it, but not the whole part. Sure those things are always nice & its great to be polite to strangers, but it doesn't exactly make you friends either.

I've noticed its MUCH harder to crack into friends circles down here than up north. People in general seem like they're a little apprehensive to just hang out if they don't know you very well. Up there, you do it all the time & no one thinks a thing about it. Its just the way it is.

But then again, you dont get the common courtesy (the excuse me's, the waves, all that) from strangers up there that you get here either. So that part's different. You basically have to have a bit of tuff skin & be on your toes a little more, JIC you run into some moron who's not doing their job somewhere to help you or a random rude person on the street.

So, I dunno. Its pick-your-poison I guess. You wanna have more friends or friendlier strangers.
I agree with you on this 100%...so much so that after being here for 7 years I am ready to move back up North. I am tired of trying so hard to make friends. I have a few, but it is constant work to keep it going...it was never like that up North. It is just easier up there, people are more open to friendship than here.
Yes people are friendly here, but more in a "Hi" while passing kind of way...not " Let's grab a drink or have dinner" way.....
