My husband and I are relocating to Jacksonville -- can anyone please recommend some nice apartments? We are very social people that like to be around fun things to do but in a safe area. Also, any tips and/or advice on Jacksonville would be wonderful!

Thanks

It's not quick and easy to respond. Much depends on three things: where you'll be working (your commute - you certainly don't want to live at the beach if you work in Orange Park), what you consider "fun things to do" (sitting poolside in a large complex enjoying a community event or walking along a sidewalk and popping into art galleries or restaurants, etc.), and the type of apartment you prefer (duplex, apartment building, complex gated or nongated).

More info please :-)

I have lived here for 15 years and I hate it here, this city is going down!!!! The crime here is awful and it does not matter where you live; even if you live outside of the city like Orange Park. Since the economy went down and the housing market went down that opened the flood gates. People that I have talked to that have just moved here call this place HELL!!! It is not safe to go out at night pretty much anywhere around town. I would try to look in the Mandarin area, that area has its issue but is still a better part of jax and it is close to a lot of things.

Crime has actually been on the double digit decrease for years. mactrk79 hates his life, I guess.

Like the a previous poster asked....what part of tow will you be working? Or, better yet, does commute time matter to you?

mactrk79 has also already trained his 8 and 10 year old to hate people that live in Jacksonville as made apparent in another thread, so no offense to him, but seriously take what he says with a huge grain of salt.

Also where are you moving from and what kind of lifestyle are you looking to live?

Whew! My husband kept telling me not to listen to that crap, as people just like to rant and rave about anything and everything! Everyone keeps asking what area we'll be moving to, and all I can say is, I am extremely overwhelmed trying to learn all the different areas of Jacksonville. My husband will be working for a BMW dealership near Regency Square mall...near JAX airport. I have looked for a few apartments, and I do my homework to make sure it's safe, and the one apartment complex I really liked (from their pictures/website) had a registered sex offender living there! Definitely can't do that! Has anyone heard of Lantern Square/Kendall Park apartments? And if so, please any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My husband and I have been married for a year and a half, he's in his mid 30's, I'm in my late 20's/early 30's, and we have no kids yet. We LOVE to go out to dinner, have drinks, be close to fun things to do (whether it be the beach, malls, museums, etc) and be around people who enjoy the same! We really just want a safe apartment, with people around our ages, and be close to fun things to do.

Thanks for all the advice (especially all the positives)

Ok, first of all Regency Square Mall is on the other end of Jacksonville from the airport! Jacksonville airport is north of Jacksonville off of the 95 and that Mall is southeast of Jacksonville off of 9A.
We aren't close to your age bracket (being in our early 60's), but do love the area we chose to live in a year/half ago! We live in a nice apt. complex just south of Baymeadows/Southside Blvds and just north of The Avenues Mall. We have different age brackets in our complex from early 20's to a few in their early 80's. Since we do a lot of cooking at home, can't speak much about "out to dinner" places other than we love Red Lobster and Longhorn restaurants. Think the most "fun things to do" in our area is going to The Avenues Mall, Tinseltown (theaters/restaurants). A lot of folks your age like the two nightclubs at the Jacksonville Landing......Maverick's and The Twisted Martini.
One thing for sure, if you have a boat, there is plenty of water here for boating! And, you and your hubby would definitely "fit in" at Jax Beach. Some great "party" places there!
Hope this helps some.

They might have meant Craig Air Field, which is near Regency Mall.

Thanks for the advice, I have noted everything and appreciate your help! As I mentioned earlier, I am still learning the area, so I do apologize if I was speaking about two different ends of Jacksonville!!! The dealership is on Atlantic Blvd and is about 25-30 minutes from JAX airport..I believe the four years I've lived in NJ has made that feel like a short commute than what most are used to!

Again, thanks so much for the advice... does anyone know about the apartment complex I had asked about?!

Ok, this is easy. Look in Riverside, Avondale, and San Marco. Lots of young professonals, lots of apartments, centrally located, near the arts/entertainment/sports/concerts/museums/parks/river/walkable & bikeable, festival, unique & eclectic cafes & restuarnts & bars hub of the city. Crime is fine, just use common sense.

Here are some realty companies to help you out:

Traditions Raelty: www.traditionsjax.com
Atkinson Realty: www.atkinsonrealtygroup.com
Prudential realty: Prudential Network Realty - Prudential Network Realty Avondale Office (think they do rentals too)
an Craigs list will a lot of apartments in these areas too.

You may like Springfield as well, as it's smewhat similar to those neighborhoods, just not as far along.

This website has good descriptions of each neighbrohood: http://dwellingsjacksonville.com/urban-neighborhoods/

I have lots of photos and other good info, should you be interested.

Those areas will be about 15 minutes from Regency or the Airport, whichever one your guy will be working near, depending on traffic.
