Having been here several years, I think that we weathered a Mgmt company who was probably tasked with strict rule enforcement. Then they went too far and were asked to throttle back, and it appears that May is doing so. Thru their enforcement, May was abetting problems that a more seasoned team would have handled more skillfully.
I am hopeful that May and our volunteer board can work together for a more sane and balanced approach.

This issue is separate from my children's experience living in the plantation.

They forgot the old saying: Never fight with a pig, youíll only get dirty and the pig enjoys it.

We picked out our home in 1 weekend (corporate relocation). I didnít know communities had rules for garage doors and garbage cans (didnít see nothiní at closing). Maybe a Del Webb retirement community, but not a place for young families. In North Florida? With all the rebel flags we passed on the drive from the airport? Iím not being a snob here Ė it just seems incongruous. Like what are we all getting dressed up for? Whoís motorcade is coming to the subdivision?

You canít know what a place is like to live in, until you do. Which is what the OP was asking. He could talk to a realtor or real people, but he asked City-Data. And thatís where I come in.

Where thereís lots of rules, thereís lots of rule enforcement, lots of rule followers, and people who like to enforce rules simply because it is a rule. And when you get old and start getting carried away about the rules, make an appointment with your PCP. See if they can write a prescription for something that will help you. Donít be a PITA just because you can.
May Management isn't a small potatoes outfit. It's in charge of Sawgrass out here in PVB as well. It does a nice job IMO - especially since it has to deal with things like the Players' Championship. Where President Bush I was last year (we did in fact have a motorcade ). We don't live at Sawgrass - we're across the street - but drive through there all the time.

Seems like you should have taken more than a weekend picking out a place that works for you. All HOA rules are recorded - they're not exactly a big secret. Robyn
