lol, I was about to link to another recent thread on Cuban/Puerto Rican restaurants and then I noticed you had commented on it, too.

I'm sure there's got to be a good Cuban available somewhere in this city if you're really that interested. But it's not like Jax is known for Cuban food so unless you're coming from the middle of nowhere there's no reason to seek it out here.

And the places FSU listed are all quite popular, but they do vary widely between budget-conscious and not at all, so be aware.

i'm definitely coming from the middle of nowhere (well, ohio is close to it!), and yes i prefer casual/mom&pop restaurants to fancy ones.
i'm surprised it's so difficult finding cuban and PR food in FL. i was in Orlando a few yrs ago and i could with difficulty locate a PR restaurant. do you really have to go down to Miami to find cuban all over??

Well, came back from JAX a couple of weeks ago. I'm sorry but Indochine was a disappointment. I'm used to eating Thai food and have even had authentic thai cooked for me. This was no thai food.
I must say it was hard finding a place to eat while downtown. I was going to try the fish place at the landing but everything was over $20-25 for an entre so I said no thanks.
My best meal was actually at the italian place that looks like a dump. The fish special was actually exquisite though the garlic bread was pitiful.

^^^La Cena? If it was I believe that was my recommendation

Shoulda' tried Chew, as well. Probably the best restaurant in downtown. The owner also has one of the best French restaurants in town.

I've heard similar things about Indochine. People who have been to decent Thai places aren't impressed with Indochine.

It's tough finding a place downtown open for dinner that's near anything. That's the problem with Downtown Jax and it's why everybody ends up at the Town Center or one of the two trillion strip malls on the Southside. There are also places in Riverside and at the beach but many of them are places you drive to, park, eat, then go drive someplace else.

Did you check out any of the bars or clubs downtown?
