Default Best market in Jacksonville to buy exotic meats?

Wondering if any place would have meats such as gator, rattlesnake, ostrich... things like that... I'm located on the southside near Mandarin, but any market location in JAX would work

Getting deer & alligator meat in Jacksonville is easy...There are a few meat shacks on Hecksher Drive near the zoo. Not sure the names but it like 2 or 3 over there. I think 2 of them sell shark meat, octopus & kunk. Live rabbits are also sold there. Im not sure about snake meat though.

There's also tons of road kill all over the place. Some of it's pretty fresh, too. Less than a few days old.

I had roadkill once. A giant rattlesnake. I was in Boy Scouts way back when and one of the "really involved" scout leader dads was driving a few of us to the campsite and we stumbled upon it. It tasted like chicken (literally), but I don't think I know of anyone else, boy scouts or otherwise, that would have picked up some large dead rattlesnake from the road.

Also, you might try hunting? Fresh venison from someone's farm is good, even better if it's your own kill. Cleaning it can be a hastle, though .

And you should be able to find gator tail at most little Florida seafood joints. Restaurants all over the state, including in Jax, fry gator tail. It's really tough. I don't particularly like it for that reason.

And isn't ostrich served sometimes at Ted's Montana Grill? Sorry if I'm mistaken.

Rabbit is more of a winter meat and is often served at finer establishments. I don't know about buying it fresh from a stand or meat market, though.

There are actually several decent butchers in town. Here are two located near you, but I know there are even more. Just do a google search.

Why did the chicken cross the road?
To show the possum how to. (How many dead chickens have you seen along the road?)

That's a great out-of-context statement.

I can certainly imagine why a shack near the zoo could be a good place to find exotic meats.

Thank you for the replies... I would also like to mention that just a few days ago I found a restaurant called Clark's Fish Camp that has a "Call of the Wild" part of their menu under appetizers. Gator every which way, kangaroo, snake, ostrich, buffalo, turtle, etc. I know most people are not as adventurous, but I kind of want to get a random sampler plate just to say I did.
