If I buy a house in the South or Beach area how long is the commute to Jacksonville during rush hours? I'm an RN and will probably be working in one of the major hospitals.
Thanks!!!

Depends on where on Southside or at the beach and what hospital. Can you give us more details? Also, depends on your shift. If you don't have to commute during rush hour, then no place is more than 20-30 minutes away.

I don't have a specific area or hospital yet I was just trying to have an idea of how bad traffic can be... A friend of mine lives in Boca and her husband has a 1:30 commute each way to work. I know it's hard to answer my question but I just wanted an idea of how bad traffic can be considering I drive during rush hour.

Not as bad as in Boca. Expect build up on JTB during rush hours (the main highway serving the Southside and beaches). Expect buildup on all of the main connector B roads like Kernan, Hodges, San Pablo (where Mayo is), St. Johns Bluff, Southside, Beach, etc.

In Jacksonville avoid Atlantic Blvd and Blanding Blvd at all costs and you won't have to worry about I-10E in the morning. I-95S in the afternoon can get a little backed up as it is only 3 lanes (it's 5 lanes in Palm Beach County) serving 200,000 cars a day, but it's not terrible compared to most cities.

You will not have even an hour long commute during rush hour in Jacksonville if you live on the Southside or at the Beaches and work at any one of our hospitals.

I live near Beach and Kernan in the Southside and work 10 minutes past downtown off Mcduff. It takes me about 25-30 minutes to get to work at 7 am and from at 3:30 pm. Traffic in Jacksonville is not really bad compared to most big cities.

A lot will depend on what you are used to. We moved from the D.C./Northern Virginia area. Traffic here in Jacksonville seems non-existent to me. But when my parents visit from their small Mississippi town, they think our traffic is terrible.

The loudness of your horn will be also be a factor.

Louder the horn, shorter time commuting, it's a no-brainer!

I lived in Atlantic Beach a couple years ago. From there to the I-95/Baymeadows intersection was a good 35-45 minutes. It kind of depends on your proximity to JTB if you're at the beach.

Part of my reason for moving away from the beach was just that... it was so far from everywhere. But it sure was fun while it lasted!
