I don't like using the big name preparers like HR & Block. My husband and I have a more complicated return so we tend to go with an experienced CPA that can handle the aggravation. :-) Any recommendations on who to use?

There are several good ones that I have met locally. I am a Financial Advisor and have conducted educational workshops for the local CPA chapter. Let me know what part of town you are in and I can point you in the right direction.

How about in the Fleming Island area?

The absurdity of our current complicated income tax return system certainly keeps tax return preparers in business :-) We have a basic return with all the simple typical deductions; yet it took me days upon days to fill out our forms. The completely bizarre part is that we can do it three different ways because of college tuition and come up with three different refund amounts. Form 8863 is the most complex thing I have ever encountered!

Anyway, I'm not stupid and I have an accounting background, but jeekers I have no confidence in how I prepared our forms and would love a professional to double-check my returns.

We've used TT the past few years and always had really good luck with it. It's super easy and much less expensive then the tax places like HRBlock, who never seem to know what they're doing anyway!

Unfortunately, our taxes this year are ridiculously complicated. Along with selling a house (and being reimbursed for a loss), we had a nearly $50k moving package which made our income look really inflated so we don't qualify for a lot of the tax breaks we normally would. I'm hoping someone who knows what they are doing would know how to make it benefit us the most.

Granted I'm not a numbers person, but this shouldn't be so complicated.
