Live in Neptune Beach and work in downtown St. Augustine, is it feasible???
Hi there,
I am moving to Neptune Beach in about a month and am considering a job offer in downtown St. Augustine (historic district area). I would have to be there at 9am. I checked on mapquest and it says it's about 32 miles from point A to point B but that it would take about an hour drive. Does anyone drive on A1A in the mornings in that direction? Can anyone tell me how is the traffic???? All replies will be greatly appreciated!

Its do-able, but would be a real pain. People from NY and LA are used to a daily commute like that, but in Jax people really don't do long commutes that often. Do you have other options?

Well, the positive is that it will be a reverse commute.
A1A is only 2 lanes almost all the way down to St. Augustine - one lane for Southbound and one for Northbound, so you can see the potential problems there.
I live inland from Neptune Beach (other side of the Intracoastal) and use A1A to go to St. Augustine when I'm not in a hurry and want a scenic drive, otherwise I use 9A south to US1.
But as mentioned above, it is a bit of a haul if you had to do it every day.

My question would be,"Why not move to St. Augustine?" and forego the long commute everyday from Neptune Beach.

I live in neptune and my ex lived in St. Aug. Beach, i just hit JTB to 9A to phillips and it is a straight shot there. It usually took about 45 min to 1 hour. It isnt too bad of a drive, plug in your I-Pod and listen to an album and you are there.

People whom live in Saint Augustine are use to commuting for work. Very few people are lucky enough to work here. My only question is with the gas as high as it is and the wear and tear on your auto, is it worth it? If so go for it but take care.
