OK... Are there any 'decent' computer stores or do we get any computer shows down here?

I already know about Best Buy and Compusa and all, but I wouldn't call them decent (usually overpriced older equipment). Up where we used to live a lot of the computer stores were understocked, and it was easier for me to just order online vs. buy from them. We'd also every week or so have a computer show (somehwere) in the area. Prices were a bit more than online, but if I needed something I could get it right then and there.

Anythign similar down here? Or any stores that stay fairly updated and stocked?

Need to build a new computer after my old one died before our move.

Thanks,

Michael

Great question!!
While I long ago gave up building my own machines, I still like to browse for some cool new components from time to time. I haven't found any great geek hangouts yet, nor I have I seen any shows come through town - hopefully someone will have the inside scoop.

We have shows from time to time - you'll see the ads run on tv.

I only know one person who went to one of the shows and he felt it was a rip off (it wasn't the kind of merchandise the advertisements said it would be, high prices, etc. - plus I think there was an entry fee to get into the show....he was PO'd ).

I'm on a mac, so I just go to the Apple store at SJTC or online......sorry, I'm not much help there.

j/k I have been in the computer industry for awhile

Let us know if anyone does find a computer solution/store would be a nice addition

Hi - we used to have computer shows but they were not selling the most cutting edge computers. You might try Tiger Direct whose home base is south Florida - Miami to be exact.

What is it that you are looking for that you cannot find at a Compusa? It's too bad we don't have a Fry's here. But there are places on 72nd St Miami International - but I see you are in MD so . . . are you in south Florida? Let me know or PM me - I can send you directions to the places on 72nd and they are component heaven.

Not what I was saying........I'm saying I'm on a mac, so I get my components from apple (in person or online) - I don't go to the other places anymore since I made the switch, so I'm out of touch with the other computer stores.

But since you brought it up......you know the old saying "once you go mac you'll never go back"? So true! AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I don't know how the Comp's work down here, but up in Maryland they were always 6 months or MORE behind on what had been released, and their prices would be outrageous for most of that stuff.

Alot of the shows up in Maryland would be SO SO also, but, sometimes you'd find some decent deals, especially if you could get them to haggle.

I guess I am ordering online for this and have to wait....

every once in awhile they will have a computer show over at the Morroco shrine but as riveree said along with my hubby if you are a real computer person you won't find the deals.
When he builds a computer he orders the stuff online.

That is what I usually do (order online), but sometimes it is nice to have something locally if I need something really fast. My stuff seems to break on Thursday/Fridays so I always end up being down for the weekend....

Default Computer Shows

I was wondering the same. They use to have one off of St John's Bluff just South of Beach. I forgot the name of the building, but it was some kind of service club. Anyway it was decent, I built the computer I am now enjoying about 3 years ago and I'm getting ready to upgrade.
