We are looking at finances for our move and are trying to get the biggest bang for our buck with an apt, condo, or house to rent. We need a 2 bed, but would love a 3 if we could afford it. Our cap is about $750. I will be going to either UNF or Chamberlain(in S. Jax). We have an 18 month old. So where should we avoid? We aren't looking for a perfect neighborhood(because those don't exist), but are looking for something that we aren't going to be robbed and I won't feel uncomfortable being a stay at home mom with a small child.

At that price, stick to apartments or condos. LOTS of people are sub-leasing condos they bought as investments that are not paying off as they'd hoped, so you can rent a pretty nice condo for not a ton of money. Houses are gonna be pricier - my wife and I rented a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home in Lakewood (upper-middle-class) and it ran us $1,200 a month.

You can find decent apartments in the Town Center area near UNF. Maybe not walkable to UNF but definitely within biking distance.

Maybe try the Sandlewood area off of Atlantic Blvd just E of St Johns Bluff, or the Beachwood area off of Beach Blvd just East of 9A. Just might find something in there to rent for under $750. They are both about 10-15 minutes to UNF

We don't need to be super close to UNF. I would say around 20 minutes would be ok maybe a little further. We don't know where my husband will be working yet, so that will be a factor. I was more looking for a list of parts of the city that you would not want to be a woman with a child home by yourself. I know there are areas of Charlotte that I would not want to live in, so I am sure there are parts of Jax that are like that.

Except for maybe some areas of the Eastside (Buffalo Ave and Evergreen) Northside (Edgewood, Soutel and Moncrief Aves.)and Westside (103rd Street and Ricker Rd.& Old Middleburg Rd.)all other areas are just about the same. There are bad pockets in even some of the nicest areas, as I am sure there are nice pockets in some of the bad areas.

What about anything east of the St. Johns River and south of downtown?

*** se *** sa! This has been discussed in here before. When I was growing up here in the 50's and 60's west of Main Street to the river was the EastSide. Northside was anything North of Springfield. You say tomato I say Toemahtoh....LOL
