Positive Perspectives On Jacksonville
What are some positive things that can be said about Jacksonville? This city was named in 1822 and before that it was called "Cowford". The county was named after the territorial governor ,William Pope Duval and the city after the 7th US. President Andrew Jackson.

The area is beautiful. People, in general, are very nice and courteous. Prices are reasonable and traffic is tolerable.

What??? They gave up the name of Cowford??? I tell ya, some people have no taste!!!!
SO far we have found the people the be extremely friendly and talkative. Well unless they are behind the wheel of a car!! We had a neighbor (who is leaving) walk down the street to tell us the Cable guy was at our house. We hadn't even met her yet.

Our cost of living is among the lowest in the state & nation, beautiful riverfront. You can get to any side of town in less than 15 minutes.

I recently moved to Jacksonville and I can say that the traffic is fantastic compared to other cities of this size. I also enjoy the lush vegetation in the area. Plants really grow very well here so the city looks lush and green (for the most part).
I'm not sure why people think Jacksonville is inexpensive. The cost of living (especially the cost of housing) is VERY high compared to most of the country when you compare prices to income. I know I was shocked when I moved here and I know that all of my friends were shocked when they moved here (I don't have any local friends). I know my grocery bills, utility bills, non-covered medical expenses, etc. all doubled when I moved here from a much larger city in Texas.

I tend to agree with you on housing costs. It may have been inexpensive before but some areas have significant price inflation.

I am a native and have loved living here 57 years. It's a beautiful green flowery kind of city loaded with azaelas like youv'e never seen before. We have lots of fresh fish to eat, birds and waterfowl to watch, snakes and critters in the area to love and care for. I've seen Jax at it's worst and it's best... from Jim Crow & corrupt officials when I was a kid to multi-cultural communities and schools living together and appreciating each other. I've never been raped, robbed, beaten, harrassed or flipped here. I've roamed the downtown streets at night, encountered the mulitude of homeless, used public transportation, hob-nobbed with the best of them and the worst of them and I still love this town. Jacksonville still has a long way to go, however. The schools in Jacksonville still go from A to F depending on the neighborhood and are in need of good teachers who care and better administrators. Unfortunately, there are still people in Jacksonville who measure their manhood by the size of their truck tires, the location of their stadium seats and see nothing wrong with the stars and bars. There are still plenty of people in Jacksonville who just don't "get it" and don't understand why "ferners" (people from other countries) just can't stay home. But there are twice as many people in Jacksonville who are willing to help others, abhor the rebel flag, welcome diversity and work at making Jacksonville an incredible place to live. My only WARNING to visitors is this: When the light turns green, don't assume it's clear to go. That's Jacksonville.

"When the light turns green, don't assume it's clear to go. That's Jacksonville"
that sucks to hear how ppl just break the law and feel that it's okay to run red lights. they do this in orlando and they are now putting in cameras at major intersections and busy areas. i was hoping that jax was different in that perspective than orlando, but i guess it's not. this is one of my pet peeves. i dont understand what happened to all these fla cities, as it didnt used to be this bad.
do they do this in all of n fla too?
