We just resodded our entire yard in our first house with Zoysia. We did the front ourselves. We dug up about 4 inches of old sandy soil and replaced with topsoil. We live on a cul-de-sac so the back is much larger (4800 sf). We hired a couple guys to resod the back after we found out what a pain in the @ss it is. They tilled the yard (no roundup), let it sit, then raked it. Before they laid the sod, there were still roots and pieces of living grass left all over the place. This was a week ago, now I'm starting to get weeds coming up. I''d like to address the issue before it gets out of hand.

What has worked for you controlling weeds? Hiring Scotts Lawn Service or TruGreen? Doing it yourself? If so, what did/do you do?

With new sod you have to wait at least 6 weeks, then apply whichever weed control product you prefer. I prefer Scott's Bonus S as it feeds as well as weeds, specifically dollar weed which is a major problem in my area. As for a lawn service company I have in the past used Scotts but was not fond of their application process am contemplating Brandons in the near future, combining pest and lawn in one.
