You won't find anything like Clevelands own Michael Symons restaurant "Lola" here in Jacksonville. But a real good one to try is Matthews in San Marco. I have to agree with the above post recommending the Mojo kitchen its awesome and if you catch it on the right night the live Blues music is also.(if you do be sure to go to the Jax beach location)

To OP - kind of depends where you'll be in the metro area. There are places in the metro area that are worth a 15 minute drive - but not a 40 minute drive if you know what I mean. And this is a big metro area. So where will you be in the metro area?

Note that there are some things worth a 40 minute or more drive depending on your interests. For example - if you're interested in nature photography - well we were down at the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine last weekend. The alligators aren't the main attraction there - the bird rookery is (photographers from major magazines go there to take pictures of birds during nesting season). And there are thousands of fledglings there now. If that is something you like to do - it's worth an hour's drive.

BTW - do you play golf? Robyn

I've only been there once and wasn't impressed, but a lot of the young people I work with go there a lot. Down the street are two breweries: Bold City and Intuition. Neither serve food, but there's a guy who comes in with his set-up sells food at Bold City. At Intuition, Kickbacks delivers or you can bring in your own food.

Another good choice is Brick in Avondale: Brick - Avondale - Jacksonville | Urbanspoon nice atmosphere and menu.

Across the street from the Brick is Biscottis, which is nice.

If you are down in Beach Blvd. You might want to check out Mojo Mojo Kitchen - Jacksonville Beach | Urbanspoon I've heard mixed reviews...never been there, so can't really tell you.
They have three locations. I don't care for BBQ, but everyone I know says Mojos is wonderful. Mojo BAR-B-QUE – “A Southern Blues Kitchen”
1607 University Blvd. West
Jacksonville, Florida 32217
(904) 732-7200

Mojo Kitchen – “BBQ Pit and Blues Bar”
1500 Beach Blvd.
Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250
(904) 247- 6636

Mojo Smokehouse – BBQ & Blues
1810 Town Center Blvd.
Fleming Island, FL 32003
