Also said they had an AYCE Seafood buffet special on Friday and Saturday night. Looking at the web sight it sounds like someplace we are definitely going to go try out ..like next week!!! here's a link...

Since I was off yesterday, I decided to take a trip to Checkers BBQ and mannnnnnnn, their food will make you want to slap your mama Checkers BBQ easily beats the brakes off Sonny's, real talk. Matter of fact, I'm going back this weekend for the seafood buffet special. I'm a sucker for buffets, and seafood in general

Mannnn I am so glad that you posted that, my wife and I were just talking about going there this Friday night and giving it a try. Mainly for me its the buffet also, and a seafood buffet just adds the icing to the cake. Maybe we'll see you there. Luckily my mom's in Naples so shes safe from getting slapped!!!

That would be nice. I haven't been on the Southside in so long, it feels good to return to South Jacksonville. Yes, I'm a Northsider through and through but I've been to most, if not all the hole in the wall joints in the Northside ghetto.

One of my wife's favorite places to eat is Barbara Jeans seafood, out in Palm Valley. And since the boat is still in the water at my sisters house from the 4th of July festivities. I decided to use it to take my wife out to her favorite restaurant. So when she got home from work we went over to my sisters place in Ortega, got in the boat and an hour later we were tying up at a good friends place a couple of docks down from Barbara Jeans. Invited Paul and his wife to dine with us, but their dinner was already on the table. So we walked on over got right in as it was a week night and ordered our favorites she the Kailua Chicken Salad,(White meat chicken chunks, Mandarin oranges, pineapple chunks, pecans and island mayonnaise)and me the, Tuna Steaks (marinated Yellowfin Tuna that is either chargrilled or blackened, had mine chargrilled) Plus to start off, I had a cup of the fantastic She Crab Soup. After a great meal we "slowly" walked back to the boat chatted with our friends for a bit and were back home (way out in the middle of nowhere) by 10 PM. If you have never been its a place well worth trying. heres a quick link... http://www.barbarajeans.com/

Not sure if this qualifies as "northside" but have you tried Tob'y BBQ on New Berlin Rd. it used to be our favorite BBQ place in town to go to. I quit going there when gas hit $3 a gallon, and we found the Hickory House on Beaver and Bulls Bay Hwy. much closer and just as good, I think. At Toby's, I used to love their pork and turkey combo with fries and baked beans while my wife used to swear by...Toby's Original Barbecue Potato:
a fresh baked potato topped with grilled onions, peppers, tomatoes cheese, pork, beef and turkey, served with ranch dressing, butter and sour cream on the side...she said it was to die for. My wife is not a big woman 5'7'' maybe 130, but she used to put that whole thing away no problem, woulda strained me to eat all of it. lol

My favorite place was Angelo's off University. Such a shame they are now closed. It is impossible to find great Italian food here, much less one that serves the dishes we like.

Angelo's was a good Italian Place for sure, have you tried Nero's just down from there on Univ at Ft Caroline its a good little place also. But my absolute favorite Italian place in Jacksonville is without a doubt Vito's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria at 3825 Baymeadows Rd. at the San Jose end of Baymeadows Rd. It's a small family run restaurant that reminds me a whole lot of a couple of places on Mullberry Street (Amici II, Da Nico and Pellegrino's) Little Italy, NYC. And going to Vito's is way cheaper than flying to NYC when the Fusilli alla Boscaiola craving strikes.
