We are relocating to the Jacksonville area for my husband's job which will be located near the Jacksonville Airport (zip code 32218). We are a young family with two young, school age children so we are looking for family friendly neighborhoods with fantastic schools.

We are looking for rentals either houses or apartments/condos/managed properties. Since we will be relocating from CT cost is not a true factor since the area we are coming from is considerably higher - we are actually excited to be paying a lot less for rent (we pay $2100 now for a 2 bedroom)!!!! We are looking for a 3 bedroom house/apartment up to $1300 (totally doable as far as i can see online), I just need some direction as far as great neighborhoods and schools. We don't want a crazy long commute either, maybe 20 minutes?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Congrats on your upcoming move! Many local property management companies (and some individual owner/landlords) list their properties on FloridaRentalAds.com, which also feed to Craigslist. Check it out, if you want. You'll probably want to search in zip codes 32226, 32218, 32225, and maybe 32246. The 9A loop will get you easy access to I-95 and the airport.

Good luck!

Pecan Park would be your best bet. 5 minutes from the Airport. Really, anywhere in 32218 will land you in close proximity to the airport. 32218 has the better neighborhoods in Northside, no ghettos (except in Dinsmore, when you go east on Dunn Ave and get close to Moncrief) and a pretty good school in 1st Coast High I live in 32218 and it's awesome; lots of family-friendly neighborhoods

Do not drop Fernandina/Amelia Island out of the equation. There are a lot of pilots and airline people I know that commute from Fernandina/Amelia Island to JIA at all times of the day and night, and love it.

LOL, she said she didn't want a crazy long commute. 32225 is across town, so even if the OP were to move there, get on 9A to the airport, it'd still be a 20-22 mile commute, which equates to over 20 minutes.

LOL... I'm not sure that 20 miles in Jax is a crazy long commute. I know a couple of people who work for US Air who live in Palm Coast ..now thats a crazy long commute to me. But they say its not as bad as when they lived out by the Deleware Water Gap in NJ and commuted to JFK it was even further. I guess it all comes down to what your used to. Although Pecan Park would be the closest. I would also look at ''The Cape'' up off of Yellow Bluff Rd and Main Street(US-17) not that far and a great neighborhood.

That would be a good look right there. Has that suburban feel. When you think about it, 20 miles in Jax isn't that long considering there are several shortcuts one can take to minimize travel time. And Jacksonville is soooo spread out that you can drive 25-30 miles and still be in the city

LO! So true I drive 20 miles from my place just about every morning just to get a bagel n a shmear and a paper at Einstein Bro's and then I am just in the heart of Riverside. Takes about 20 minutes and thats at rush hour, but there are so many shortcuts that can be taken if you know the area its not too bad. The main thing I like about The Cape is its suburban yet feels very rural with oversized lots and mostly friendly people. And most homes back up to great nature area's.

Avondale

Both neighborhoods have tons of families in great, unique neighborhoods. Lots to do. Lots of parks. Central location in the city, about 20 minutes from the airport.

www.traditionsjax.com & www.hethrealty.com are decent places to look in these areas, as well as Craigslist.
