Question Transfering to Mayport.

Hello im currently in the military and im moving down to jacksonville and im searching for an apartment thats gonna be kind of close to the MAyport base. I got my apt list that i wrote down and i need help to see if this is gonna be a good area for me. Im single and looking fo a 1 bed/ 1 ba but i dont want to stay somewhere in the hood or in a apartment complex that isnt that great. i know every place you go the neighborhood is not all bad but there is crime everywhere but just to be away from the worst area from the crime is better safe place. Also trying to find a good commute if its not that bad.. i havent been down yet to check but it will be soon, so heres my list and if you can help thanks:

Gregory Cove: off Edenfield Rd 32277
Huntington at hidden hills: off Monument rd 32225
lighthouse Bay: off Atlantic bch 32211
Riverbend: off University Blvd 32277
Royal estates: off arlington 32211
Heron Walk: off off Powers Ave.
Deer Meadows: off old kings rd 32257
Silver Springs: off st johns bluff rd 32224
Sea oaks Plantation: off plaza dr 32233
Ryan oaks: off st johns bluff rd S. 32246
Club at Charter Point: off Universtiy club blvd N. 32227
Pine Meadows: off Saland Way 32246
I know its alot but i had to narrow down my options. I want to live comfortable and im not that familar with JAx area and i need to know heads up the worst areas before i choice a place.. So if these place is a good commute to the base and in a decent area please let me know Thanks so much.. O- ya also looking for a price for rent not to high its just me and have w/d hookups or in units... Thanks again.....

Hi Boogie,

A lot of questions come up like yours, so I'd recommend doing a search here on the forum for the specific apartment names you mentioned - it's a great way to find feedback.

I know some of the locations you've listed, so I'll give you my take on a few here to get the ball rolling:

(I'm writing inside of your quote, so I hope it comes out legible......)

Heron Walk: off off Powers Ave. Too far - I'd remove from list

Deer Meadows: off old kings rd 32257 Too far - I'd remove from list

Silver Springs: off st johns bluff rd 32224 Good commute right up 9A, safe and convenient spot, but the renters tend to be young (in their 20's), so it can be a bit rowdy. If you're in your 20's it might be a good fit though !

Ryan oaks: off st johns bluff rd S. 32246 This is right at the airport (Craig Field), so there might be some plane noise. Otherwise it's a decent area.

Pine Meadows: off Saland Way 32246 These are not so great. I'd bring this to the bottom of the list. The commute is the same as Silver Springs, but you have 9A right overhead (noise) here.

Hi boogie
A early welcome to Jax
Lets see if I was single I would look at the beach. Atlantic beach, Neptune beach are closer to Mayport than Jax beach.
What range are you looking to spend ?
One thing to consider is what time will you be heading to work? if it is early you won't have a lot of traffic to deal with.

Red face Good area..Still searching Apts.

Thanks for the advice. Is there an area or areas( zip code) that the apartment rentals are great and that it isnt that to far from the mayport base and the traffic aint bad. What about the different areas instead of the beach. What about the Southside is it close enough. Where do you suggust to live im a single person but i want the best place to live in at least decent nothing bad. Any apartment complex you can say is good and at a decent price.. And it doesnt have to be that close to the base but just a lil ways out not to far.?

$650 is not a bad price at all.
I have friends on the southside and they are paying close to 750.
Have you checked on base to see if anyone is looking for a roommate if this is an option ?

Stay away from these. My son lived in Pine Meadows and Silver Springs and Deer Meadows is bad, too.

My husband and I lived in Silver Springs when we were first stationed at Mayport. I would NOT recommend living there.

Also mayport traffic can be quite hectic, so keep that in mind when choosing an apartment.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy being stationed there.

ETA: If I had to pick 1 apartment on your list, it would be Huntington at Hidden Hills.
