areas in or around JAX
I am considering taking a job in Jax. Currently I rent a townhouse near DC. If i break my lease, I would have to pay a 2 month penalty which would cost me about 4k. The property management company owns a few apt complexes near Jax. If I move into one of their properties, I don't have to pay the penalties for moving out of my townhouse up here. The location choices are:
1: Southside of Jax on southside dr near exit 340 from 95
2:right off of 115 a bit below highway 90
3:hodges blvd right below highway 90
I just want to know if these areas are safe and if they are good areas or run down parts of town etc.
TIA

Think of any random newer, generic, suburban apartment complex in the U.S., and that's what you'll find in those areas. They are not in 'run down' parts of town, but are hellish for other reasons.

Why are they hellish, I work in one of those areas. Is there something criminal going on there, or should I be concerned for my safety?

These will be fine while you run out your lease and learn the area better.
You may even choose to stay there.
Not as nice as (most of) the Va suburbs but in that vein.
If you would rather have Adams Morgan... you won't be happy.
But if that's the case then none of Jax will suit you well.

Jb, they're hellish b/c (a) not walkable/bikeable, ie must drive everywhere (b) very generic enviornment and commerical (c) lack of QOL amenities like parks & culture (d) I could go on
bill, I promote all the neighborhood/areas that feature the above named amenities/design/lifestyle, which are mostly the in-town neighborhoods (aka the urban core) but also the beaches to a lesser degree.
Why? Because this is what more & more people desire, especially professionals, the young, the educated, the forward thinking, the creative.......which is what every large city is competing for. Oh, and I personally enjoy those areas too.

That's awesome Bill. Way to buck the trend.
