Hello everyone, my husband and I are moving into Jax and I was wondering about some good, SAFE apartments to live in. We were looking into Mandarin Lanai off of Sunbeam but I can't seem to find anything on here about them. They seem nice but I read somewhere that people said to stay away from that area and that there were some murders at an apt complex somewhere on that road. We live in a relatively safe area now and I am getting really worried about moving. We are also looking into Riverside/Avondale, would that be a safer bet? Our budget right now is around 650 until I find a job. Thank you for your help in easing my mind!

Sunbeam Rd in Mandarin is not all that bad...and not all that good either, just so-so. I believe the murders occured at the large complex on the northeast corner of Sunbeam and San Jose Blvd. a few years ago.

In Riverside you can find a decent place to rent for about $650 but doubtful in Avondale.(maybe $750-800 min) There are no real large apartment complexes per se in Riverside/Avondale most are smaller investor owned quadraplexes.(2 units up, 2 units down) Or homes that have been sub-divided into multi family dwellings. (usually owner/landlord occupied)

You can also check out the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office web site, where they have a nice interface to find crime statistics throughout the county, and can narrow down to pretty precise information. Their site also has a link to the state site for sex offenders. COJ.net - Crime Statistics/Crime Mapping

1. There's just as much crime in the Riverside & Avondale historic district www.riverside-avondale.com. Random violent crime is very rare unless you live in the NW quadrant of Jacksonville.

2. But it's still a great place to live. Probably the best in Jax.

3. www.traditionsjax.com & Heth Realty, Inc - And Property Management & jacksonville apts/housing for rent classifieds "riverside avondale" - craigslist are all good places to look.

4. I messaged you with a lead.

Madison at Bay Pointe isn't bad. You may be able to get a 1 bedroom for $650.
