Wow, I just took a look at Casa Monica. That's a beautiful place! We'll want something much more basic than that but maybe we can stop by there for a special dinner.

Their "in-house" restaurant is very nice, too: 95 Cordova. They have a 5-course dinner that's really good. Pricey, but really good.

Any other thoughts on a good hotel to stay at?

To get a feel for Anastasia Island I would stay there and where depends on your budget
There is a Hilton which is pricey but if you do not need class and can be on the other side of the road from the beach the Regency Inn is reasonable and has an indoor pool which you will enjoy in January

My favorite hotel on Anastasia Island is the Castillo Real, which has a great restaurant in it. In fact the wife and I are staying there this weekend while we visit friends and to just get away together alone. And the best part is it's about 1/2 the price of the Casa Monica.(which is a great hotel also ...but twice as much) Here's a link to it...

The Regency Inn looks like a possibility. All we really need is some place clean and preferably near the beach or the Bridge of Lions (we want to be able to walk into the city from the hotel). Castillo also looks great but website claims they're already booked up for the entire month of January.

Has anyone seen this Anastasia Inn? If so, what did you think? It looks good on the internet but that can be deceiving.

I have been by this place innumerable times but never actually stayed there. It looks fine but a little dated. It's only a couple of blocks from the best seafood shack on the first coast IMO (O'Steens Seafood) Like I said earlier we are going down there tonight and eating at O'Steens tomorrow I will take a closer look at the Anastasia Inn then and let you know.

My daughter and son-in-law stayed at the Anastasia Inn several years ago. It is an older building but well maintained. The management was very attentive and pleasant. Also, take a look at The Edgewater Inn. It sits right at the foot of the Bridge of Lions on the Anastasia Island side. It is also well maintained.

Just checked out the Edgewater. Gorgeous views from your room and close to the bridge so we can walk into town. Can't beat that! Not much of a beach but we won't want to go swimming in January anyway. Besides, we can check out the beaches when we go around with the realtor (or immediately after).

Here's a link to our bus system. If you will not have a car while in St. Augustine, you will find helpful info on getting around with our bus system at this link The Sunshine Bus Company - St. Johns County's Public Bus System
