Have there been any movies that feature scenes shot in NE Florida? I'd love to rent a few flicks showing scenes shot anywhere in the JAX area, especially St. Augustine and Amelia Island.

These are just since I have been alive and in Jacksonville

1) "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" was filmed partly in Jacksonville at an old nightclub that was on the Ortega River near where the Grand Avenue Bridge is.

2) "Brenda Starr" with Brooke Shields and Timothy Dalton was filmed here at the old DuPont estate and in the Riverside area.

3) "GI Jane" with Demi Moore was filmed at Huguenot Park across from the Mayport Naval Station, so they could get real navy ships in the background. The navy would not let them film on base.

4) "Lonely Hearts" Much of this was filmed in downtown Jacksonville and features a cast of John Travolta, Selma Hayek, and Jared Leto.

5) "The Manchurian Candidate" This film, starring Denzel Washington, was also partially shot at Huguenot Memorial Park in Jacksonville.

6) And lets not forget that cult classic "ZATT" which local Jacksonville native Don Barton co-wrote, directed and produced the film, which was shot during one month in 1970 in all different areas of northeast FL. including Jacksonville, Green Cove Springs, Switzerland, Marineland and Rainbow Springs on a $75,000 budget. (Zatt has a family tie for me)

Most of these films, both old and new, were shot in the Springfield Historic District.

Until about 1920 or so Jacksonville, used to be the film capital of the USA...Silent Film that is. There were approx 20 major studios for that era that were all in Jacksonville. But the down to earth upright citizens(future First Baptist Church Congregation) got fed up with the shenanagins of the film industry people and basically kicked them out of town ..where upon they all moved to a little nowhere place in California called HollyWood.

I don't think we were ever the film capital. At that time it was NYC. But we were the winter capital.
