Thank the Denver defense, not Tebow, for those wins.

If they beat the Pats, it won't be hype. It would remove all doubt.

But, I don't think the Broncs can beat the Pats. They are too good.
I think their offense is too strong for the Broncos.

I agree. In retrospect they were foolish, plain and simple. I don't think it was due to a lack of foresight. I think there is a general disdain in the NFL for college football not necessarily just for Tebow.

Agreed.

And some of it is lack of coaching.

The great ones pattern their offenses and defenses to the strengths of their players.
Ala Bear Bryant, Bobby Bowden, Don Shula, Bill Belichek, even Steve Spurrier.

I can only dream about how good the Gators would have been if Emmit Smith stayed
and played in 1990.

It wouldnt have mattered, the Gators were still on suspension from the last Galen Hall fiasco until 1992.

A general disdain? Without college football in general where would the NFL get its players from. As there is no mass viable semi-pro football program that can feed players to it. Without the NFL teams having to spend an enormous amount of money on, to get started and keep it running. We complain about the cost of tickets today could you imagine what a ticket would cost if each team had to support 4 or 5 farm teams also. And unlike baseball which has an 162 game season, football only has a 16 game regular season in which to make money in.

Maybe if NFL Europe was joined by NFL Asia and NFL Australia and NFL Africa and NFL South America college football would become a somewhat less important factor to the NFL, but only by a factor of maybe .02% as hey would still need college players to draw from... OHHH!!! Wait NFL Europe FAILED

Not any longer. Elway has already said he's going to work with him extensively in the offseason to help him with his footwork. He feels he can become a reasonably-good throwing QB with a little work.

OK - a POV from someone who lives here - a friend of the "Gator Nation" (from the academic side) - but knows about zero about football (except the stuff I read in the papers - even the WSJ) - about how QBs in the NFL have to be able to throw from the pocket (or something like that - whatever it means).

As a friend of the "Gator Nation" - sitting in the President's box at the Gator Bowl - I have watched Tim Tebow play - and I have met him FTF (when he was younger). He is a guy with a mission - a forceful personality. And - most importanly - a leader of teams. I know there are a lot of people who say he doesn't have the skills to be a good NFL QB. But - in my line of work before I retired - lawyering - there were a lot of people out of Harvard who were horrible when it came to being lawyers in real time - a lot of lawyers from Stetson who threw a lot of touchdowns.

I realize that the way he plays might - in the NLF - put him in a wheelchair in the next year or so. Running into 300+ pound NFL defenive lineman can do that to you.

But I will never forgive the Jaguars for passing him up as a draft pick. Even if he'd been 0 and whatever for the Jaguars - he would have brought fans into the stadium - pumping their fists - hoping he would win. The only time I was ever at the stadium was to watch Tim Tebow (playing for the Gators). To see what kind of magic the kid had. And he did have magic.

Note that I am Jewish - certainly not a fundamentalist Christian. Not at all interested in "Tebowing" - but I would have liked to see Tim Tebow play here. I might have even bought a ticket to see him play here for the Jagaurs. Robyn

I have to agree with this point of view. IMO there are 2 kinds of fans, the ones that will accept nothing less than seeing their team win a game and will stay away if there is a losing streak. They will curse the entire team. Then there are fans that also want to win but equally identify strongly with certain players. They are the cult fans and the Jags don't have too many of those fans. MLB fans are a good example of cult fans which is why the Mets will pack 'em in even when they are the bottom of the league.

Which leads me to believe that even with the Jags having a bad season,Tebow would have cultivated a cult type of fan win or lose that would put some more behinds in the seats. Some people will sit through the worst movie just to see their favorite star perform.

Conservatively speaking, there would be at least 10,000 fans there, just to see Tebow. If he were to be the starting QB, they would sell out, no question.

And when Robyn and I agree, it has to be right!
