The JAX Chamber had it's annual event last night at the Florida Theatre, and unveiled their new design, calling it the new "front door" to Jacksonville.

The upclose design images look really sharp.

The chamber has made downtown redevelopment a top priority, saying business executives base their judgments of cities partly on their impressions of downtowns.

“In the national and global competition for new business, downtowns — not their suburbs — frequently serve to define the communities,” said Hugh Greene, outgoing chairman of the chamber.

The funds will be privately raised. $2 million for everything.

That's pretty darn small, in the scheme of things.

My guess is that it'll be raised in about 2 years, and phased in after the first mill is had.

Let's see......"not in my grandkids lifetime" vs. "about 2 years".

Another easy W for me.

Interesting difference in tone between the first post and the last (sixth).

While other cities champion signs of progress, Jacksonville resists. The status quo is, indeed, this town's comfort zone and myopic, in my opinion.

Those who have not been in the area long have reason to hope for a revitalization downtown.......those of us who have been in this area a while are not easily swayed by promises of things to come.

With this new administration things do look bright for changes, EverBank moving all it's people back downtown to work is a great foundation for the future. Hopefully we can get more companies interested.

Jacksonville will never be compared to larger cities, but that's fine. We can hold our own, and enjoy what we have for now.

EverBank getting paid to shift jobs 15 miles at the taxpayers expense is another story for another post.

I disagree, I think most are in a "shut up and show me" state of mind. Sure there are some that resaist change, but many are tired of the talk, they want action.
