Does anyone remember Arty's Pizza on Cassat Ave? If you ordered spaghetti it was served in a glass bowl that you could take home? Also the Wishbone chicken that was on Blanding Blvd? And one can't forget Pantry Pride and Big Star grocery stores.

My dad talked of state road 17 being nothing all the way to Green Cove. Once there, they would run on an old abandoned
airstrip. Heck, I remember hauling down Philips highway, Racetrack road. I just heard even thats totally built up. By the way, is Greenbriar "Ghost-light" road in St Johns still "haunted" or is there a Chili's in front of a strip mall inside of a mall parking lot there?

That airstrip was 'Thunderbolt Speedway' and it was just passed what they call "Dr's Inlet Rd" now- It wasn't called that then, I think it was called SR224 or something. Anyway, the racetrack was on the right (obviously, the river is on the left lol) before you got the the chicken farm. There is some cool info on the old Navy airfields around town and there is some info and maybe a picture here:

Okay I was a teenager/young adult in the 80s so here is my list LOL

I used to date when I was in high school( at Fletcher now lol) a Mandarin 'redneck' named Oscar. He ran with a pack of boys LOL I met him at Skate Road 13!! I remember Mandarin was wayyy country back then. First time I ever ate rabbit, squirrel etc was at his house. They had a well with stinky sulphur water and I had to drink grape flavored koolaid made with that water. OMG to this DAY I cannot drink grape koolaid!!! LOLOLI always wonder about those boys since coming back to Jax a year ago.

Century 21 Apartments- they were the epitome of 'cool' when I was young. The bar that used to be in there I forget the name was a good hangout.

The first bar I hung out at was Brinkmans on Beach Blvd. Remember all the beer cans?

Then I 'graduated' to Playground South LOL I LOVED that place. Somebody asked about Rick Tracy..I too wonder what happened to him?

I dated a guy named Ron who was a Jeweler while I was in Barber College at Roffler School of Hair Design on University Blvd. He had a friend named Sam who enlisted in the Navy.

While there I went with a friend to Englewoods prom LOL. In that same shopping center was a game room called Close Encounters. It was the hang out. There was a guy named 'Mad' Max who had a HUGE 4 wheel drive blue Ford truck nicknamed the Beast LOL

Then there was the Keg of Nails LOLOL oh geez where was that again? On Blanding or 17 or something?

I rode horses at Southside Saddle Club too. It was in Mandarin.

Partying at the Crab Pot on Sunday. That was a blast.

Anything else I remember I will post later

PartiPoodle,

I remember Keg o' nails was on Blanding, just before 'Western World' and across the street from the Jax Liqours.

Actually....I guess that would be the 'second' Jax liqours- Originally Jax was in the Winn-Dixie parking lot at Blairmore and Blanding- then I think that one closed and they ended up building the new one across from the Keg and next to where the Pic-n-Save and the roller rink ended up being built.

ok...I just did a little googlemaps street-view 'driving' around OP, and I guess I was thinking of 'The Roadhouse' not Keg of Nails-

But wasn't the Keg a bit farther down Blanding near where Clay Mavericks was?

Another random memory, there was also a saddle club out in White House called 'The Sundowners' I think? I think it was on Old Plank or something.

And there was some animal and horse auction place that was way out there as well- I can't remember what road it was on but I remember that the road ended backing into Cecil Field or some Navy property.

We raised Appaloosas and had property out off Jones road- I remember my mom would make me walk from our house to this 'country' store owned by the Obi family at the corner of Jones and Commonwealth to buy her cigarettes....turned out to be a pretty good deterrent to smoking for me lol

Hi Party Poodle, where did you keep your horses in Mandarin? I had a horse in Mandarin from 69 - 73 (three different barns). I am guessing that you are younger. We used to have so much fun riding around Mandarin back in the day! I also rode at the SSSC and Clay Mavericks before switching to english.
