There was also a Famous Amos on Atlantic Blvd a few blocks west of Southside Blvd. The biker gang The Outlaws hung out there.
There might still be a Stan's on Cesery between Arlington Rd & the Expressway.
From Fla Ex-Pats post: I remember the first "Fern Bar" I ever went to was Annie Tiques there at Regency. "Fern Bar" ; great descriptive term for those types of establishments.
Chi Chi's was in the Bldg I mentioned this am that used to be a Ranch House. They added on to it and included a covered patio.
When I was a teacher in Mandarin 25 years ago, we (the faculty) used to wind down at the Bombay Bicycle Club that convextech mentioned.
The Tree House was on Arlington Rd, just north of the Expressway; a very non-descriptive facade that belied the elegance inside. When the area around there became crime-ridden, the Tree House moved elsewhere. Don't remember where they moved, but I seem to remember being told that it's closed now.

Flamin Amos! I remember that too.
I had one of my first dates with a "grown man" at Chi-Chi's.
Godfather's Pizza was in that shopping center too, they had the greatest White Pizza. We used to hang there Friday nights after the football game (Sandalwood Marching Band).
Used to shop around the corner at Strawberry Fields.
Ate at Jimmie's Chicken on Beach Blvd & Grove Park Blvd.
Worked at Winn-Dixie, then Pantry Pride & Rawson's Super Valu.
Lived in Century 21 apartments & partied at the bar there. The Phoenix? Crawling home instead of driving was a lot cheaper too!

its sad that the bar is just a boarded up chained off hulk.. it was a nice building and the apartments are barely better than a ghetto

PartiPoodle...
The "Thunderbird Motor Hotel" was on Arlington Expressway and University. It was THE place to be in the late 60's and early 70's. It had the "Kings Inn" restaurant for FINE dining and the Zodiac Lounge and Tiki Bars staffed by long legged, micro mini skirted beautiful young ladies. The Terrace Room was, at that time, the ONLY dinner/show theater in the South East. The had all the Mo Town and Rock and roll bands there and ALL the seats were great because the whole room was like a movie theatre....each table was a level higher than the one below it and everyone had a great view. The Terrace Room, Zodiac Lounge and the Tiki Bar by the HUGE pool outside were ALL open until 2AM. And i had GREAT time working there as a younger man....Every Easter and Mothers' Day they had a HUGE buffet lunch that started at 11AM and went until 3PM...and then the "Kings Inn" opened for dinner. And I loved LUMS. I went to the one on Arlington Road by the Arlington Plaza Shopping Center. And ya'll are RIGHT. Their onion rings were Phenonminal !!!! I had to switch to Popeye's Onion Rings....and then Popeye's stopped making them...what is one to do....with all of the Great and neat bars...how about a real dive....does anyone remember Bo's Reef....well, Meery Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year to you all !!!

Parker, The Tree Steak House was over in Mandarin on San Jose Blvd in another non descript building, but the staff, service and food is the same high quality that it has been for years. I had a great meal there about a year ago...

Convex, the bar at Century 21 was the Phoenix and I worked security there and whenever I would step outside for a quick smoke, We would almost be overcome by the "purple haze" of the joints fired up by the residents andbar crowd...and it was like that all over the complex....it was hard to stay focused...LOL

PartiPoodle,Bo's was at the beach...but I have not even been by there in years. The worst dive I hang out at the beach is Pete's bar....and I have been going there for years....gawd...and it hasn't changed at all....and of course Malabar Liquars on Beach Blvd could always be counted on to provide watered down beer, stale food, rough customers and a seedy atmosphere....
