Pete's and other bars
I used to hang out at Pete's in the mid '70's, haven't been there since. I bet it hasn't changed a bit.
A few pages back I mentioned Londonaire East, where I used to take my under-legal-age girlfriend in '73-74. The Bldg was demolished just a few weeks ago.
Another hangout was a dive on Univ. a few blocks north of Arlington Rd called the Chatterbox. The Bldg was an old gas station. Cold beer, acoustical music, and pool tables.
Around '82-83, after city league basketball games, my teammates and I often went to a bar on Beach a few blocks west of Univ. Can't remember the name, might have started with a "B"? There was frequently an entertaining fist fight at that bar.

Hmmm, Brinkmans. Sounds right, but I woulda swore it was west of Univ. Just yesterday I was on Beach Blvd headed to Staples, and I was trying to figure out what strip that old bar was in. Couldn't figure it out; I'll have to take your word for it.

If there were 100 different kinds of beer cans behind the bar, it was Brinkmans. I just came by there a few days ago and its building is now something else (of course) like Aarons or something

Pattti's
Then some of you probably knew Totsie, a waitress there for over 40 years. Would like some shared memories of her.

i worked at patti's for about a year back in i think 1989-90... totsie was oooold and could barely walk around the resturaunt all night long. she was a legend, though. i had fun working there and looked forward to my employee meal of chicken parm and pasta every shift. the sunday buffet was fun to work. there was one couple that came in EVERY sunday and the wife would pile up plate after plate after plate, and disappear into the ladies room a couple times to purge. it was disgusting, but the owners never called her out for it.

Meerkat, I was a big fan of the Tea Men (though I hated their nickname). Before they came to Jax, the only experience I'd had with soccer was in high school when I dated a girl (Virginia) who played soccer for Episcopal High. I went to see her play several times but had no idea what was going on.
When the Tea Men arrived in 79-80, I was working in the field house at UNF. They trained there; suddenly I was in the midst of a bunch of foreign speaking men every day. Actually, they were all nice guys, and I decided to see what soccer was all about. Virginia was (and still is) married to my best friend (and the two of them are still my best friends), and she & I joined the booster club, attended all the home games, and played soccer with a group of fans of all ages at JU every Sunday afternoon.
I still have a pile of Tea Men memorabilia in a couple of boxes. Maybe someday they'll be worth $$$.

Gosh, Parker, then amybe my Jacksonville Sharks and Jacksonville Bulls stuff will be worth something someday....LOL....I don't think that there were too many HS soccer teams back then. I know BK had one and Episcopal, St.Johns Country Day School and, oddly enough, Raines HS. And UNF sure has changed over the years, hasn't it. They just keep on building...it is turning into a really nice facility.
