Does anyone remember Byrons Disco next to Hoyt Stereo in Roosevelt Mall? Randys Lake Shore Lounge? Allens Grocery in Ortega, Steak n' Eggs? Dollar movies at the run down theater in San Marco where they served beer, and everyone went every Saturday at midnight for The Rocky Horror Picture Show? Steak n' Ale on Arlington had a band called Justin that starred Mike Shakleford? The original Bono's on Beach that had the small white buildings in the back where the employees lived? Fat Tuesdays at The Landing? Wow, great memories, great thread...thanks.

I remember the band Justin's at Steak & Ale. My boyfriend and I used to go see them on Friday nights all the time. They were great.
I also remember Hoyts but I can't remember Byrons Disco. Was it a lounge ?
I remember Steak & Eggs on Herschel St. I think Pastiche Restaurant is there now.

Yes, it was a disco lounge attached to an Italian restaurant. We had a blast there, a real regular crowd...

Was it the Midway Drive Inn ? That's the only drive inn I can remember out towards the beach.

Nope, the Midway was on the right side as you were heading towards the beach on Beach Blvd, just before Southside Blvd. There's a WalMart there now. I remember seeing some cheesy movie there where Farah Fawcett appeared topless for about two seconds. It was some flick she made before she became famous, and of course it was distributed to all the high-class venues such as the Midway.

A high school buddy of mine rigged up some rocket launcher to the front of his parent's station wagon, and when Farah's part came up, he shot several rockets at the big screen (the bumps they had to help you see the screen aided in the projection). Of course we were all underaged and drinking ().

There also used to be an Ethan Allen furniture store across Beach from the Midway (the building is still there, but it doesn't appear to be an Ethan Allen anymore!); and a rollerskating rink not too far much further down Beach, but I can't remember if it was before or after St Johns Bluff Road. Still, I remember skating there on the weekends as a teenager!

I left Jax in 1981 after graduating high school and going into the Air Force. I've only been back to visit since...

Cheers! M2
