Hi,

Our family is due to be moving to Jacksonville in the next few months. We are looking for advice regarding housing areas, and education.
We have looked long and hard into the education, as we have a soon-to-be 13 yr old, and we are not sure how long our posting will be for, after which we will be returning to the UK. We have looked into the International Baccalaureate programme as a solution, and the magnet system in Duval County looks like it would work for us. Do either Clay County or St John's County offer any IB programmes?
We understand that school places depend on where we live, and we are not sure whether we will get military housing, so it could mean searching for a private rent. According to the Embassy, we need to live within a 30 minute commute of NAS Jacksonville. Not knowing the area at all, which areas does that leave open for us to look for houses in? We are hoping to only need to buy one car, but obviously if needs must....

Thanks in advance for your help

From what I understand, schools you'd be interested in are Paxon School for Advanced Studies and Stanton College Prep. The ideal neighborhoods between those schools and NAS are Riverside and Avondale.

I'm not a fan of Orange Park because of how much traffic there always is there. I think someplace like Julington Creek in St. John's might be ok, but I think it'd be about 10 minutes further from there to both NAS and the HS (Nease).

I think Nease is the only IB program in St. Johns County.

Thanks for the input We have been advised by others that Orange Park is not great. We have looked further South, on Fleming Island and down toward Middleburg too, which both look good. But it all depends on schools in the end. We've been put in contact with the School Liasion Officer at NAS Jax, who is looking into all the options open for us.
