yes, but i would imagine that st johns co and clay co have pretty low crime. jax is accounting for most of the 3 ne fla crime stats. and even then i think jax crime is mostly in a couple areas. northwestern quadrant from what i've heard.

there's plenty of petty crime in the beaches, and there's crime in the best parts of the southside also, but it appears that the majority of shootings and other violent crimes happen in the NW, low income = low intelligence = low behavior

Hello there, the crime rate in Jacksonville is clearly the drugs and the drug houses. The investors are buying up homes and renting them to drug dealers and they become drug houses with prostitution. This is the problem in Jax , all areas as well as other cities....... People get older, their kids sell the houses for nothing to these investors and here we go. In my neighborhood on the Westside, we now here the helicopter fly overs, the gun shots ring out all hours day or night, and we can see the thugs.. Noone will do their part and go to the sub station, turn in addresses , car tags and that would help. They sit at home scared like all areas and turn their cheeks. That will not rid it. You must do your part to stop crime. It takes us all.. You can call or report at a sub station and remain unknown. Its your right.. Call, report, fight back... Or let the thugs take it all.. Thats why Jax has issues , noone is doing their part to help our police do their job. We have to tell them whos doing what, where and how. I work fulltime and I report everything I can. I do my part . But it takes more than one... Thanks.. REport to sub stations.

If you think the westside is all that.. Open your door at night and go to sleep. We did when we were kids.. Open windows, no alarms.. Walked our dogs and talked to neighbors. Its not like that now. Murray Hill,, Born and raised... Investors and the problem... Buying these homes and renting to anyone... Our neighborhood is turning raw.Bars on windows at the minute marts..I grew up next door to my home I live in now as an adult.. I can tell you about my neighborhood..... Live in yours for some years then tell us what, when how.... I have three men in prison for robbery, car jacking and they shot me too... I can tell you about the horror story.........

The people at Jax Legal Aid (presumably good albeit idealistic people who are typical of most attorneys at any given legal aid clinic in any major city) who suggest this are typical of the delusional rationalizers who will do everything in their power to reassign the responsibility for crime to anyone or anything other than the people who are committing it. To validly correlate homicides to foreclosures, one would have to examine the murders that have occurred in Jacksonville and then establish whether the murderers were presently in a state of foreclosure, or if their foreclosure could reasonably be assigned as a motivator to their crime. To make a suggestion like "foreclosures are higher in zip code X and so are homicides thus foreclosures = homicides" is just so unbelievably stupid that I have a hard time believing that someone with Jax Legal Aid actually said that. Foreclosures are common to poor financial managers. Foreclosures are also common to people in the lower economic strata. Increase in crime rates is also common to these same people, including homicide. Moderator cut: edited for racial comment This DOES NOT in any way, shape or form mean "foreclosures cause homicides" or "foreclosures cause crime", however, I would wager that those who are likely to engage in criminal activity are more likely to have their homes foreclosed for reasons having nothing to do with the crimes they choose to commit. The crime rate in Jacksonville has risen to ridiculous amounts as of 2007. We weren't the city of saints before 2007 but, the increase is amazing. I believe that at least in part, this is due to alot of hurricane Katrina evacuees moving here. Based on the reputation (merely word of mouth) of places like New Orleans and other areas that were hit ALONG with the attitudes of these Duval cats, I can definitely see how the mix would be a recipe for disaster. It may not be the entire cause but it definitely contributed to the number of murders in my opinion. Any other people from Jax have views on this?

I'm not certain of the best way to respond to someone who is so afraid of encountering examples of the terrible redneck, conservative, Baptists, and particularly those who might be, in your view, racist. I qualify for three of those categories, being a "redneck" (generally defined as a person who spent much of his or her life, bending to the task at hand, with sun exposure creating a "red neck"); conservative in my political views; and a Baptist. Up to this point in my life, I've slaughtered none of my neighbors or family members. I haven't committed any armed robberies, rapes, burglaries, carjackings, child molestations, or any other crime that would condemn me, even with my conservative, Baptist beliefs. I honorably served the US Marine Corps for 24 active duty years, have volunteered for the past 17 years for a variety of community causes, have seen three children through college at least to their bachelor's degrees, with one going on to become a physician, one an attorney, and one a state employee. I'm very much like the average person in America, and certainly in Jacksonville, in that I want what's best for my family, my community, and my country. You may well rest assured that, given a choice, those who believe as I do would probably prefer to not be burdened with the presence of a person with a mind as closed as yours appears to be, since we are a diverse, multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-religion bunch of "rednecks", who easily tolerate those who wish to assimilate. For those who would seek to divide us for our differences, rather than to unite us for our similarities, entry to our ranks may be a bit difficult. Oh, by the way. My ancestors came from Africa, with their dark skin now worn by me and all in my family, so it's possible that the precise definition of "redneck" doesn't apply to me in every context, but I do hope you can please save your fears of racism for others who prefer to fear their neighbor rather than to enjoy the same. Enjoy God's blessings. |
