Demolition derbys are the best of all. if you haven't been to one of those, you have zero street cred.

I have never been to a "Monster Truck Show"
and have no desire to go to one. But I do feel
that while they are a Major Event, Culture has
nothing to do with it.

You are right, culture has nothing to do with it. They are simply fun to watch. I get a bit closer as my company sponsors all the Feld owned trucks that will be there, like Grave Digger. Try it once and you may actually enjoy it.

I couldn't find the article that spoke about the popularity here in Jacksonville but the the recent link below does go into the worldwide popularity of Monster Trucks.

I did see one article that said it was Jacksonvilles biggest event...........I wonder if that took the Fl/Ga game into account?

Being from the country, but living at the beach for over 30 years, I never had any inclination to attend this event ever, but a year or two ago my son who was around 10 or 11 at the time wanted me to take him there. So trying to be the good father we went downtown and to my complete and utter surprise, I had a really great time watching the trucks rip and roar all over the place, not to mention the ladies and their "daisy duke" shorts that permeated the crowd.

It's one of those "don't knock it till you try it events."

I haven't been back since then, but would go again if invited. Plus, after being a disillusioned former Jaguar Season Ticket Holder for years, it was nice to actually see the stadium completely full for a change!

I have participated in several spontaneous demolition derbies.
