My husband is being stationed at NAS Jacksonville and we live too far to be able to go and look around at a lot of houses. Can anybody please tell me the best areas to live? We have kids so I don't want them being raised in a bad town. Thank you for any help!!

Try posting some more specifics about what you're looking for and what's important in a house/neighborhood. Price? Schools? Near the beach? Amenities? Jax is pretty big, so that will help narrow down the places to look.

Jax doesn't have towns, it has neighborhoods.

- What's your budget?
- Buying or renting?
- How much space do you need?
- What do you want to be close to?
- What kind of lifestyle do you lead?
- What do you hope to do in your free time?

Best bet would be Fleming Island. Great schools and a straight shot to NAS up US17 in 20-30 mins depending on traffic. Lots of military families. My dad owns a small RE brokerage there and manages several military rentals as well as assists with purchasing. I'd be happy to give you his info if you'd like.

we will be renting a house, we need 2-3 bedrooms and anywhere under 1300. we had a terrible experience with the last house we rented where we currently are I don't want it to happen again! I'd like to try to stay no more than 40 minutes away from NAS. We love going to the beach, but it doesn't matter to us if we are close or an hour and a half away from it, as long as we live in a good neighborhood.

Look at Ortega Hills, it's an older concrete block home community almost directly across US-17 from the Birmingham gate at NAS JAX. Whenever I drive through there visiting an old family friend, I think that it is still a nice old place to live. And it's very convenient to I-295 & US-17 and the beaches are less than an hour away from there.

I am looking for apartments in Jacksonville, Florida. I have 3 little dogs (2 female chihuahuas and a maltese) and a cat. My job is transferring me early next year. I am only looking to rent so I'm not tied down. My work would be at the Federal Building, 400 West Bay St., Jacksonville, FL. Does anyone know of any one bedroom apartments that would take 4 pets? I've looked online and some say no weight restrictions (I don't know if this would help my situation or not). I also don't drive, so I would need public transportation or some other form of transportation to get back and forth to work. I only have 4 more years to work so I am just looking for some place to be until then.

Most apartment communities have two pet limits so all I can recommend is overlooking that "rule" and forge ahead with the best location. Hopefully your dogs aren't loud and call attention to themselves constantly. It might also help to secure a unit in a complex where walking your dogs isn't in plain sight of the management office as well. A concern is when maintenance staff may enter to perform routine checks on the A/C system or for another reason but not all are that aware sometimes of the surroundings and are just in/out. Lastly I cannot imagine that if you're a good tenant and keep the apartment clean/orderly that management is going to get nasty should it be discovered after the fact. If anything they may increase your pet deposit but greatly doubt it would turn into an eviction process or something else equally ugly.

Your rental options will be drastically reduced if you have to stick to public transportation routes as Jacksonville does not have a good public transport system.
You may want to try and rent, perhaps a small house, in Riverside or San Marco areas, that way you should be able to get to work without changing buses.

P.S. Next time please create your own thread instead of hijacking someone else's

This is very bad advice. I'm a landlord. If a tenant deliberately broke my pet rules, I wouldn't hesitate to start the eviction process. I do not want a dishonest person as a tenant.
