So I was offered a job today in downtown Jacksonville and besides a few football games, I know almost nothing about the town. (Especially sad since I live just down I-10 in Tallahassee).

The job is in the Bank of America Tower downtown and I'd like to live close. I'm hoping some of the (presumably) awesome local residents can give me some info on the area around this office and some insight on housing out there.

I'm in my early twenties, making a pretty good living and would consider potentially buy a condo along near the river.

The Historic Riverside/Avondale area would be a great fit for you, it's less than 3 miles to the BoA tower. And some really nice riverfront/view condos are available.

San Marco is another great area to consider, as it is just across the Main Street Bridge. And less than 2 miles to BoA. A little less walkable than Riverside but just as nice.

Yep, what madcap said. You could also do condos in downtown Jax but the downtown area isn't as exciting during non-work hours as the neighborhoods madcap mentioned.

That's why I didn't mention the DaD (Dead after Dark) downtown area. Sure it has a couple of nightspots but Riverside has 10 times as many, as does San Marco both with a better environment.

Thanks! I like the idea of living near the river, I'm into sailling, fishing, boating, etc. I'd love to be somewhere close to some night life. Not dance clubs but bars (Craft beer bars perhaps?), microbrews, sports bars, music venues, coffee shops, etc.

Definitely Riverside then. Loads of bars, watering holes great little restaurants and Intuition Ale Works a fantastic micro-brewery & Taproom ... Intuition Ale Works - Jacksonville Brewery and Taproom
Riverside also has more public river access than San Marco does for fishing. As for boating/sailing there's no place in either Riverside or San Marco to launch, recover or store any boats, but both areas are near boat ramps.

Echo what everyone said but even better....You can live downtown in close proximity to the Landing. Right on the river and you're next to tons of restaurants, bars, clubs, etc.
