Any Nice Multicultural Areas in Jacksonville Florida
Hello, We're considering moving to Jacksonville and were wondering if anyone is aware of any nice multicultural sections in which to raise our childern - diverse neighborhoods with blacks, whites, asians, and others. Our children are mixed race (black & white), and we desire to raise them in an area where All People are Loved and Accepted - a nice family area with low crime and good schools - perhaps we're seeking the Liberal section of Jacksonville. perhaps. Thanks Much.

I think you'd feel comfortable in most parts of Jax .
The areas to concentrate on would be close to the city center and/or the beaches. When you reach the far-flung suburbs and rural areas the tolerance level goes w-a-y down, IMO.
Depending on what type of housing you're looking for, I'd focus on the older, established neighborhoods that flank the river (especially San Marco/San Jose) or the general Southside/Intracoastal West region of the city all the way out to the beaches.
Check out zips such as 32207, 32217, 32225, 32224, 32246, 32256, 32257.

Basically most of Duval County for the most part would fit your criteria.

i would reccomend the westside of the city. it is where i was born and raised and it is very diversified. it is where NAS JAX is located. its halfway in between downtown and orange park , theres shopping malls, strip malls, strip clubs , drive in movie theaters, drive thru windows at every liquor store. this is more or less the undeveloped part of the city, with more of a country feel to it, and anywhere from collins rd to lenox ave you and your family should be pretty safe.

Timberlin Park
Hi Hana Royal,
We are in a very similar situation to yours and thanks to Riveree's great advice we looked in places I would not have thought about.
We just came back from our house hunting trip and are seriously considering Timberlin Park. We drove by at different times of the day and night and saw a very good mix. It is on zip code 32257 and the elementary school is Mandarin Oaks. It is an "A" school with a more diverse student population than other areas I was considering. I think the middle school is Twin Lakes which is also an "A".
I will start a thread specifically asking about Timberlin Park. Hopefully it has a good reputation, because it looks great for my family and possibly yours.

In terms of old ethinc neighborhoods, we have those too, mostly on the lines of black - white - Hispanic. But as an international port (growing like crazy) and US Naval Fleet HQ (brand new) in an old Navy town, almost anywhere you land is going to be more diverse then most anywhere I have ever lived (7 states, dozens of cities and 4 countries). If your a professional then the upper income areas of the Southside or Beaches is great. St. johns Town Center, Nocatee, roads like, Race Track, Old St. Augustine, Gate Pkwy, Hodges, Kernan,
Typical Gate Pkwy, Hodges, Kernan fare
San Jose, San Marco all have lots to offer to the left or right. The urban scene of San Marco is one of those little jewels hidden in the 1920's. Dotted with quaint shops, older beautiful homes and cottages. Further south on san Jose Blvd. is the old San Jose Country Club area, one-time home of the DuPont Family which by the way is a condo community still called Epping Forest. Still further south along the river is Mandarin, and while San jose has faded from a country road to a many lane commercial strip, the area toward the river is just as it was in the days of "Uncle Toms Cabin"... Oh yes, the author lived there. One of the last true canopy roads in the south runs along the river West of San Jose in Mandarin and nobody better ever dare touch those oaks!
Mandarin is special
Downtown is up and coming without the crime of most inner cities. The Southbank of downtown offers some truely stunning new skyscraper apartments and condos with New York views, Los Angeles interiors and South Georgia prices. On the northside in the heart of the old core, 11 E. Forsyth (For SI th), the Carlton and Metropolitan Lofts all have cool web sites. Down the west side is mixed pickings with lots of change in the wind. West center is experiencing a booming crime wave that seems to be nearly out of control. Yet West closer in or Orange Park is sweet and growing sweeter. If you like the San Francisco, Portland, hip-yuppie lifestyle, with every mix from multi national, racial and sexual... check out the urban digs of 5-Points, Riverside (Park St. and King) , Avondale, even fairfax. If you dig and are made of $$ you'll want to test the waters of Ortega (where I grew up... the only one to miss out on the money!) or Ortega forest.
Hope this helps...
