Default From Vegas to Jax??

Hi, this is my first thread on the website... have just been lurking for a few days. Wondering if anyone has relocated from the west coast to the Jax area. How would you compare it? Pros vs. Cons? Better or worse? I've adapted to no bugs, minimul humidity and very predictable weather, but I've heard despite these things that the residents still love it. We may be relocating there in about a year and I've never been more nervous. I adore San Diego, so if you've been to both I'd love to hear your opinions on comparing the two. Any advice would be great.

I guess is what I'm asking is do you LOVE where you live and why??? Thanks SO much!!

Here's a thread where lots of people weighed in on what they like about living here:

I've lived out west (CO) and I've spent time in Vegas, but it's been a while for both.

It's totally different here, so I don't know what I'd compare.

We obviously have high humidity here - it's sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse. I'd take Florida's humidity over Summer in Vegas any day though - I could not believe how deadly hot it was (and I was dehydrated no matter how much water I drank ). Your skin will appreciate the move to FL .

Bug Heaven here, but you get used to it. The weather is predictable enough - it's either raining or it's not, but either way the sun is shining .

We do get a lot of people who move to Jax from San Diego (must be a Navy thing?), I guess they like it here?

I agree with riveree, your skin will love the humidity I've heard some people say Atlantic Beach reminds them of San Diego, but I've never been to so cal so I'm not sure how accurate that is.

I spend a lot of time in Vegas and can tell you the two of them are night and day... but I love both. I have never really been one for night life, so that could be a big missing element for you if you move here and need that. Most of the time I spend in Vegas is either in Summerlin or Henderson which you can find areas like that around Jax... just no casinos. I prefer the humidity, and it is warmer in the winter, to me at least. But the people are actually more high strung around here that out west, I thought it would be the opposite. I was born in La Jolla and loved San Diego... I would have chosen that over here but my wife wanted Florida. The biggest difference I feel is that Vegas is a "destination city" while Jax is just a great place to live. I would say give the city another 5 years or so and it could really become a destination city if the people in charge wanted it to be. I do love it here, but the two areas (Jax vs Vegas) are not really comparable. Who that helps in some small way.
