Moving from DC (northern VA) to Jacksonville for work. I'll be working in downtown jacksonville, pretty close to where route 10 meets 95.
I'm looking for an fairly upscale area, with young professionals. I'd like to find a apartment in a nice complex, reasonable rent (rents don't seem that seem down there) Traffic isn't that big of a concern for me, less is always better, but coming from the 3rd worst traffic in the nation, I'm pretty used to it. (My commute to work now is 30 miles, usually takes an hour, unless it rains or there is an accident, then it might take 2 hours) Close to the water/beach is always a plus. Thanks, all the the natives seem to really like the city, I'm looking forward to moving. |

I am a Jacksonville resident and loved staying here. I also work in downtown area but lived in Mandarin area. My commute takes me ony 15 minutes. My best recommendation for you is to find apartment along the southside blvd. area. If you trace where Butler blvd is, there are lovely apartments and pretty close to jacksonville beach. The area is very well developed and growing. People here are very hospitable (mostly from southern). We migrated here 7 years ago and loved the weather here than any other parts of Florida. We still enjoyed our fire place during winter. Summer is humid but spring & fall - very much like California. Welcome!

Look around the Gateway Parkway and Burnt Mill Road area. These are fairly new. It's close to shopping, your work and a hop to the beach.
