THASPECIAL,

The pie terminology is used quite frequently by a lot of people in NJ/NYC and most especially by Italian Americans. My dad usually calls pizza a pie and he was born in the late 50's.

The reason for using the pie terminology in the post title was to focus the topic away from "traditional, cookie-cutter, anywhere america" pizza to something a little more Italian American...a little more NY/NJ. I don't say this in a NY/NJ is better than everyone tone...but there are a lot of immigrant Italians there and they have a certain "style" of making pies there.....that is what I was looking for in this post. So, if you know of the place that makes the best pie THASPECIAL I am eager to know.

Isn't a 'Tomatoe' pie something different?

Ok....that's cool...ive heard the phrase "can i order a Pie" when i answer the phone at my work but its been years since ive heard "pizza pie".....it just reminded me of when i was a kid.....but thats ok...im sure the pizza up there is some of the best anywhere ....my only thing is when people try to force me to belive that before i tryed to eat one myself....and alot of people come on in a way that makes other people feel like they dont know anything, but when you tell those same people that you know of the best barbeque in town then they still claim that where they came from is better...i guess ive had alot of bad experiences with people acting like they are superior because they are a different race or from a different area or just any kind of thing that embodies pridefullness......i believe that everywhere has the best "something"....so i dont see why people act in certain ways......i guess its homesickness or trying to make other people know where they are from or something, but alot of the time people that do this come off in a different way then intended....Not you personally im just speaking of people in general...i respect your reply without an arguementive attitude.....thats what we need more of on here..because there are alot of misunderstandings on these forums and people overanalyze words they see on here too....and i think im guilty of that here so sorry to come off that way....thanks for the info...i already knew that but i misunderstood the conversation before reading the part i saw

I did have a very tasty non-traditional pizza pie at the Loop recently......

Hey, I'm likin' the sound of PIZZA PIE. I think I will begin to call them pizza pies all the time now. Calling it a pizza is so declasse and "pie" sounds like a wanna-be hipster insider. No, PIZZA PIE it is. A bold statement...PIZZA PIE.

We could start a J'ville wave of consciousness. You might find yourself at Renna's and hear the woman beside you say, "I'd like a large cheese PIZZA PIE, please." You'd look over...and think to yourself, OMG, could that be Riveree? Or wait....she ordered just cheese. It must be Karla.....

Let's say:

"Yo, lemme getta pizza pie".........then they'll know it's us !

To add to all the wonderful pizza places listed above, I'll add Nora's. Nora's is really, really good . Downtown at 236 W. Adams and Google says there's a location on Merrill road though I've never been to that one.

Al's are all over, here's a link with their location (they make an awesome eggplant parmigiana hero, BTW ):

Found a place called Brooklyn Pizza on Saturday. It is off of Baymeadows road at the intersection with 9A in the Winn Dixie Plaza. Had a few sicilian slices there and the dough was very good. They sell by the slice or you can order a whole pie ("pizza pie"). They also have wings, heros, calzones, strombolis, salads, gelato, and cannolis. I didn't try the gelato or cannolis, but it is really cool that they have them. It seemed to me like the workers/owner are really from "the City". They sell shirts there that say "fugheddaboudit" and they have images of Coney Island on the menu and on the wallpaper of the restaurant.
