Exactly. They have skyscrapers there for a reason--a LOT of people in a small space. We don't have that problem here in Jacksonville--and likely never will.

Skyscrapers are absolutely a legacy of a bygone era. Why do you think there are (relatively) so few being built here in the US?

And I don't know how you can feel living in a house is like a prison. I can understand how you feel it's fun living in a high rise in a vibrant city--not that it's something I've ever wanted to do--but a prison? Really?? That makes absolutely no sense.

They're ridiculously expensive to build and maintain. They're just not needed unless space is limited, which it's not around here.
Space should be saved.

It actually seems backward in this day and age for us to avoid building them.

Thats a very impressive gallery. Are those just random pics for cities in China?

Yes they should, but does that mean "should they"? Constructive criticisim is always welcomed, but flat out lies, personal attacks on a place you may dislike for what ever reason serves what purpose? It serves none, just as their repeated negative posts. There is another poster from Tenn thats constanly comes on here with nothing but negativitly. After awhile it gets annoying. I Guess where they live must be real boring.

Downtown Jax used to be "alive". At least for some residents.
Lost Jacksonville

"Used to be" is an important part of the previous statement.

They built the new stadium a few years ago and there's a section on Washington Ave where they've rehabed a bunch of apartments and opened small shops but by and large, downtown is filled with abandoned and often blown out office buildings and factories.

One good thing about the STL downtown is the landing. A couple parks, arch, bunch of restaurants, couple of casinos are all right there backed by a bunch of bars all a short walk from all of the stadiums. It has the potential to be something great but running a major highway right through the middle of it kinda breaks everything up. Not to mention the Mississippi is basically a sewer.
