And how many times have you managed a venue which is on a US naval ship? I'm thinking things there are a little different than hosing something in a hall...

I'm against having it on a US Naval ship. I don't care where it is.

Having it one time, (last year) was unique. Multiplying it 3 times this year, reeks of a money grab.

I think it's a neat concept ... like those NHL games played outdoors up north (though I'm not a hockey fan) ... I just don't want to pay for it with tax $$$

Honestly, what's so neat about it? What does an aircraft carrier have in common with college basketball? What's next, play a game on the Dames Point Bridge or how about down at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm?

Playing a hockey game outdoors makes total sense since that's how hockey was originally played (maybe not in the NHL) and is still played today by kids and adults in cold climates. Playing a basketball game on an aircraft carrier is just dumb (IMO). There's no reason for it.

It's just that ridiculous.

And I'm sure there is taxpayer money going towards this. I (obviously) don't know this for a fact but it's a Naval vessel with Naval officers and enlisted who get paid...via tax dollars. The maintenance and upkeep of the vessel is also paid for with tax dollars.

All this is already getting funded with taxpayer dollars, with or without an NBA game taking place on board. I'd be very surprised if any substantial amount of the additional costs to host this event is being footed by taxpayers.

I think it would be cool to have an NBA game played on a black top street-style court. That would kind of have some parallels to the outdoor hockey thing. I'm quite sure nobody in the NBA would go for that though.

From what I've read on the game last year, the only "extra"expense occured by the Navy was flying all the planes off the carrier so they could build the two courts.

I wouldn't even call that "extra", because the squadrons usually fly them all off the ship prior to returning to port. For anyone who doesn't know, aircraft launches from a carrier must be done while underway and in a headwind. The only exception is for an aircraft that can do vertical launches (USMC Harrier jets).

see, I did not know that. Everything else was covered by the promoter. Unless the Navy pays the soldiers overtime, I don't see where there is an extra expense to the Navy. You could also make the argument that these games gives the Navy exposure to its consumers, young people.
