Fresh Seafood in Jacksonville
Sorry to keep asking these questions about where to find things, but new to the area....and sometimes not easy to find stuff (waste a lot of gas). The current question is about seafood. Where can I buy fresh, local stuff that I can prepare at home....i.e. what is the best seafood market? Also, I would be interested in any local raw bars. Thanks again everyone!

Steve's seafood on A1A is very good. I've also been told that the seafood market on A1A in jax Beach is very good. Its somewhere around ?? South 14th and you can take home to cook or eat there.

There's a fresh seafood place on Blanding (the name escapes me), right near the Spaghetti House. There's also a fresh seafood place on Hwy 17 near Aron's Pizza.

Best I've found:
There's a fishing store/bait shop on 103rd that sells fresh caught. They are on the left if you are going from 17 to Blanding. The selection changes on a regular basis and I have gone there to find them sold out before.
Honorable Mention:
Fish shop on the right after you pass Wells on 17.

Bukkets is the old standby for a raw oyster bar - there's one at the beach and one on Phillips Highway.
As for seafood, you're probably best just seeking out a local spot near your home. Almost all of the fish shops in Jax are getting their fish from the same sources (often Mayport), so it's all the same. Lately we go to a little fish shop in Ft. Caroline (the name escapes me right now). Some people go straight up to Mayport, but you have to buy in bulk if you do that (doesn't work for my household, but it might for yours or you can split it with some friends).
Good news - we're getting a Mitchell's Fish Market at the Saint Johns Town Center. I don't imagine they'll be competing on price, but it will probably have a nice atmosphere and maybe some unsual items available. It will open in Phase II very soon. Here's a link:

I found Aldin's Seafood Market on Atlantic Blvd. last week too. They sell the whole fish. The guy was really nice to me, showed me how to cut off the head and take out the guts. He said it was locally caught....I cooked it that night and it was the freshest seafood I have ever had...no "fishy" smell or taste!! I have for the most part lived in the northeast in landlocked areas or areas close to water...but polluted, so to have this "fresh" seafood option in Jacksonville is an awesome bonus to life!
But it is still does not make up for the lack of olives here (haha)......seriously Publix just marinate some freakin olives in a barrel and put the barrel out near the deli. I will then proceed to dip the scooper into the barrel, fill my plastic container with them (I may cheat and eat one just to test quality), and proceed to pay you for them. You will make a profit from me and from many other people as well. With that profit you can then begin to make fresh mozzarella every morning! Thanks Publix.

You should tell them......seriously ! The Publix managers are really good about feedback - if there's something you want your local store to carry, tell them, if they feel there's enough of a demand, they just might do it.
