No offense by the way...I do find it interesting that that Bid list is so short for both years. 2016 only has 4 cities, with 2017 having 6 cities. The Semi final cities will get the semi game every 3 years so its really not that important for them to bid although nothing can stop them from actually bidding. They get the Semi games for free. I just see these games bringing in more people than the Final Four.

Out of the city itself? That doesnt make any sense. It should be near Bragan Field and JaxVet Arena where it belongs.

No! Technically it's still in the city. But it should have been moved to an area that had much better traffic flow and ample room for parking. Plus Bragan Field and Jax Vet Arena have both been basically torn down and rebuilt since the Gator Bowl was redone, they could have all been rebuilt out in the same I-95/I-295 area.

Hotels nix Jacksonville?s chances for college football championships - Jacksonville Business Journal

Well Jax lost the bid for 2016 & 2017 to Pheonix & Tampa Bay

Jacksonville doesn?t get college football championship games - Jacksonville Business Journal

It will be interesting to see what happen for 2018 & 2019, with Miami & Atlanta lurking in the shadows.

In the Jacksonville.com article, the Gator Bowl Association stated that they didn't know more hotels, entertainment, & convention center would be key considerations.

I think it's fair to say they're firmly on the Downtown revitalization bandwagon now. : )

^True. But I think it's an extremely lame excuse on their part to claim they didnt know ...anyone on this planet could've told them that.

I find it hard to believe also after the Super Bowl that it was not known that a major event of that size or close to it would need the rooms to support it in the future.

I find it crazy (my opinion only) that the city would put in 43 mil towards a scoreboard and fountains that they say would contribute to obtaining future events at Everbank.

In this day and age with most city's reeling from municiple pension woes any extra money that is set aside to be used on improving downtown needs to be given out to projects that will really give the biggest bang for the buck.

When downtown starts to sparkle.......the hotels will come.

to correct you Dallas, Phoenix and Tampa Bay were the first locations chosen, LA and New Orleans have the first playoff spots for this season. Noles vs Ducks should be a good one.
