Is the University of North Florida located, for the most part, in a good area of town? Is it out of the way of most of the crime? I will be coming from a town with a population of about 5,000 with no crime, so crime in Jacksonville really scares me!

With a student body of over 16,000 I think that should scare you more than being the victim of any possible crime.
Yes UNF is in a relatively safe area of Jax, but you should know that crimes can occur anywhere. Even in your little town with only 5,000 people in it.
I'm willing to bet your town doesn't have 4 local TV stations and a daily newspaper to report all the crime going on there. Does it?
Being the victim of a crime is more about what you do or don't do to keep yourself safe, than it is about criminals just wandering by looking for just you to pick on.

We live about a mile from UNF, just across Beach Blvd. There are a couple older neighborhoods nearby where many houses are kind of trashy and unkept. However, I would say the area as a whole hole, has a low crime rate. Especially relative to say, the northwest area of town.

A whole hole? As opposed to a partial hole? Sorry couldn't resist.

We have learned to expect a certain Dum Bass from Tampa named crazynip to come in here and talk trash about Jacksonville whenever his mommy lets him near her computer unattended!

This area (I live in the area) is quite safe but, as has been said, crime can happen anywhere. However, it's less likely to happen here than in other parts of town.
