Hello, I am a single female in my early 30's considering moving to the Jacksonville area this summer. I'll be graduating with my masters in clinical social work in May and will, of course, need to find a job. Can anyone reccommend places where I might find employment...i.e. social service agencies, hospitals, etc.? Also, are there any dangerous areas I should avoid when looking for housing? I've heard Nocatee is nice, is that a development I should consider? I would like to buy/rent a condo and can spend no more than $150,000. Are there any good nondenominational Christian churches in the area? Lastly, how is the city of Jacksonville? I would like to move some where safe and good for raising a family, but I am currently single and would also like to meet people! Any constructive input would be appreciated! Thanks

What kind of lifestyle are you looking for? Nocatee is "new urbanist" (but still very small) and far from the city and many other things. I'd narrow down potential neighborhoods by what type of lifestyle you want and most likely you wont have to worry about unsafe areas. Most one-bedroom condos will be well below your price range, and there are plenty of churches to choose from. Jax is an excellent city to raise a family but less easy to find that special someone.

In general, I'd start looking in Riverside/Avondale, Southside or the beaches.

What specifically, do you feel makes Jacksonville an excellent place to raise a family?

From what I've read, our school sysytem in Duval is far below average, our crime rate is far above average, we still have far more racial tension than most places, and our average wage scale is far below the National average.
